About

Promoting Youth Volunteerism for Sustainable Development

Letter from the Secretariat:

It is our utmost honour to invite You all to the final chapter of VLOMUN’s original trilogy, taking place from the 29th of May to the 1sth of June in Warsaw, Poland.

Having attended dozens of MUN conferences, we realized that the best MUNs are not the ones with a huge budget, nor the ones backed by huge institutions or with decades of tradition. They are the ones created of the people, by the people and for the people. People from the MUN community. The ones who attend an MUN every week not for enlarging their CV, but for the friends they made along the way. And that is exactly why we gathered together to continue VLOMUN's legacy – to provide you with the ultimate MUN experience, which You will remember as the 4 most enjoyable days of Your life. A goal which with our immense organization experience, tremendous UN knowledge and the chillest vibe we expect to achieve.

But we cannot do that alone. For that, we need YOU, so do not hesitate and APPLY.

Sincerely Yours,
VLOMUN2026 Secretariat

Addressing the Instability in the Northern Triangle Region

    About the committee

For the past few years, the region of the Northern Triangle consisting of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras has become victim to severe humanitarian and security concerns as a result of rampant gang violence. Steps have been taken to an insufficient extent and a vast amount of them are questionable, to say the least. The three countries now face some of the largest homicide rates worldwide, extreme poverty, all driving migration from the region. In recent times, more than two million people left the region. This in turn has affected the broader region of North America, bringing the attention of the United States, making the crisis a much larger affair. This year’s VLOMUN Security Council ambassadors will try to reach a consensus upon a resolution to this crisis.

Examining the Security Implications of Mass Displacement and Refugee Flows with an Emphasis on the War in Ukraine

    About the committee

Mass refugee movements always go along with relevant armed conflicts or instabilities, being a hardly manageable issue. In recent years the number is growing and it is the responsibility of the UN to secure borders of its members and establish international peace. Sudden and numerous population movements can damage host countries' infrastructure, destabilise the region, start ethnic tensions or organised crime, and much more. Poorly managed refugee flows may result in even more problems, considering nearby conflicts which provoked migration. The recent war in Ukraine or terrorist activity in Sahel Region are examples of conflicts, which start refugee flows, however they can be foreseen and organised better. The challenge for the international community lies in addressing the root causes of displacement and ensuring that responses respect international law and human rights. Border and refugee camp security (also long-term camps), host countries' stability, organised crime, lack of resources and basic healthcare are the issues delegates may discuss. Improving intelligence-sharing between neighbouring states, expanded education and better organised camps, conflict prevention and peacekeeping, improving camp security or establishment of long-term camps, supporting host state can be potential solutions or topics possible to discuss at DISEC.

Re-evaluating Laws for Fishery with the Goal of Promoting Competitive Markets and Habitat Preservation, whilst Addressing Malpractice in the Industry

    About the committee

Fisheries law is a developing and specific branch of law. Fisheries law involves the examination and evaluation of various fisheries management strategies, including catch shares like individual transferable quotas, Territorial Use Rights of Fishing, and additional methods. The topic is crucial to the Economic and Financial Committee, because while promoting free markets and sellers, it is also important to check whether they are complying with the accepted standards by preventing species extinction by saving the spaces they need to live and maintaining the natural habitats of fishes.

Addressing the Situation in Western Sahara, with a Focus on Strengthening the UN Mission on the Referendum in Western Sahara

    About the committee

Western Sahara, a sparsely populated territory in North-West Africa, is one of the UN’s longest-running unresolved territorial disputes. After the withdrawal of Spain from the region in 1975, an independence war erupted between the Polisario Front, recognised internationally as the legitimate representation of the Sahrawi people, and the neighboring states of Morocco and Mauritania, the latter of which withdrew in 1979. Today, Morocco controls around 80% of Western Sahara and claims sovereignty over the territory, with varied international recognition. In 1991, the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) was established to monitor the fragile ceasefire and organise a vote on self-determination, which has yet to occur. SPECPOL will focus on the right to self-determination of the Sahrawi people and work to resolve the political deadlock.

Combatting the Proliferation of Falsified and Substandard Medical Products in Developing Countries

    About the committee

In developing countries, which tend to have lower accessibility of medical supplies of various types, a market of proliferated medical products flourishes. It is therefore one of the most important part of the World Health Organisations agenda to combat attempts of trading such products in countries in which they sometimes still remain the sole source of treatment due to various obstructions in developing a proper medical care system. The proliferators tend to raise prices of their goods even above the properly produced ones on the market therefore pushing their clients further into poverty trap. The problem therefore seems much more complex and requires holistic analysis and approach of deep understanding by the members of the committee.

Discussing Measures to Address Human Rights Abuses in South and Latin American "Banana Republics"

    About the committee

Since the turn of the 20th century, inhabitants of Latin American and South American states have been subject to exploitation by foreign companies using their people and soil to accrue capital. The most famous example of this exploitation is likely the story of the so-called “banana republics”. These are states in the throes of economic and political instability, whose economy is sustained mostly by one export product – bananas in the case of the discussed countries. Companies in possession of large swathes of farmland in countries such as Honduras, Guatemala, and Ecuador have been linked to a number of actions in violation of human rights law, including massacres, providing inhumane conditions for workers, and the displacement of First Nations' peoples. History also shows examples of coups and political destabilisation caused by these actors. The present situation is, of course, vastly different from the one in the 20th century, but it still bears marks of inhumane conduct by fruit companies. The goal of the delegates in this committee shall be to address current suspected human rights abuses and create solutions to prevent their future propagation.

Pokojowe Rozwiązanie Narastającego Konfliktu Między Władzą Komunistyczną a Demokratyczną Opozycją

    About the committee

The debates of this committee will be conducted in Polish.

Discussing Ways to Prevent Ecological Risks Concerning Assisted Migration, with an Emphasis on Introducing Invasive Species

    About the committee

The term „assisted migration” refers to the human-assisted movement of species or populations to new, more suitable areas to help them survive changing climatic conditions. Even though it is an effective way of countering „adaptational lag” (species not being able to migrate fast enough naturally), it can bring negative consequences, such as disrupting ecosystems through introducing new invasive species which might become pests or compete with the native species of that area. The committee members will focus on writing a resolution that will act as international guidelines for assisted migration to be executed with more control and less risk.

Strengthening Protection Frameworks for Children Left Behind Following Parental Crossborder Deportations from the United States

    About the committee

The number of children being left behind in the United States following parental deportations has significantly risen, and is affecting more minors now than ever. With an estimate of 5.6 million children living with at least one undocumented parent, with the majority being U.S citizens, the situation is getting out of hand, resulting in a large increase of minors being at risk of separation from parents. This cross border displacement managed by U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement has led to severe consequences for the abandoned children, including negative impacts on their long term health and development outcomes, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, housing and economic instability, the loss of a much needed caregiver, disruptions in education. Some of these children are lucky enough to receive alternative care, however some, thousands, are not as fortunate, with some of the cases being children forced to represent themselves in court. Though these temporary care systems still do not provide full financial, psychological and educational support for minors who have all of a sudden lost a parent. Children are the future of our nations, this is why we believe their welfare and safety should be our priorities.

Addressing the Use of Psychedelic Mushrooms for Therapeutic Use, with an Emphasis on Drug and Alcohol Abuse

    About the committee

Some new clinical research says that when psilocybin is given to people in a medical place with a therapist it can really help them, however it is very dangerous and can lead to physical and mental changes. Taking magic mushrooms may cause you to see, hear or feel things that are not there, or to experience anxiety, fear, nausea and muscle twitches accompanied by increased heart rate and blood pressure. In some cases, the consumption of magic mushrooms can lead to "bad trips" or "flashbacks". The idea behind psilocybin-assisted therapy is to help people understand why they are addicted to things not just treat the addiction itself. Psilocybin can help people have realizations, about their thoughts and feelings and this can really help them change their behaviour for the long term. Ongoing studies continue to evaluate its safety, effectiveness, and ethical implementation within regulated healthcare frameworks.

Addressing the Issue of the “Manosphere” with a Focus on the Rise of Sexism Amongst Young Internauts

    About the committee

The “manosphere” targets male audiences in all digital spaces. Many men and boys engage with the content in search of forums to learn about men’s issues. However, the solutions and discussions veer far from healthy advice, promoting instead ideas of harsh self-discipline, emotional control and physical dominance over others, especially women and girls. This creates an unhealthy state of mind and a view of reality, harmful for both men and women. This topic warrants urgent attention due to its potential negative effects on the social development and functioning of future generations. Addressing this issue might significantly reduce gender inequality among young people, particularly given that the internet is one of primary sources of information and the main platform and environment for the development of the “manosphere”.

    1. Determining Individual Jurisdiction and Charges against Senior Nazi Leaders for Crimes Committed During the Second World War
    2. The Prosecutor v. Joachim von Ribbentrop and Hermann Göring

    About the committee

The Nuremberg Trials, being the international criminal trials being held against the defeated Nazi leaders between November 1945 and October 1946, were the attempts of the Allies to trial the Nazis for plotting and carrying out invasions of several countries in Europe and committing horrendous acts towards its citizens during the Second World War. The main purpose of the trials was not only to try the defendants but also to assemble irrefutable evidence of Nazi war crimes, offer a history lesson to the defeated Germans, and delegitimize the traditional German elite. On what counts should the Nazis be tried? What should be an appropriate verdict? There is only one way to find out, by applying to Nuremberg Trials, which connect both diplomacy and debating upon the international law, with ICC-style hearings, providing a once-in-a-lifetime MUN experience.

Discussing Measures for Keeping the Secret Society Hidden

    About the committee

The Illuminati Council is a secret international organisation that unites influential and powerful people with the goal of controlling markets and international politics. In light of recent events such as the release of the Epstein files and a general popularisation of the idea that the masses are in fact not in charge of the world order despite worldwide democratisation, secrecy of the Illuminati is facing an unprecedented threat. The ever increasing access to the internet worldwide allows conspiracy theories to spread beyond the local rednecks favourite pubs, and influencers/ political commentators like Candace Owens reach new audiences every day. The society needs to take decisive action to combat this ongoing trend, while keeping in mind, that any false moves might cause the opposite effect. They also might be forced to consider skimming or expanding their circle based on what they deem necessary. Ultimately the goal of this committee is to create a plan of action that will ensure the survival of the Council for years to come, and reaffirm their grip on the public.
