Reforming UN Peacekeeping Operations through the revision of the Military Staff Committee

    About the committee

UN Peacekeeping is supposed to help countries navigate the path from conflict to peace, and for this purpose, the UNSC sets specific mandates. These peacekeeping missions albeit contributing to global stability at times, have had a fair share of scandals and failures, whether that be in the DRC with MONUSCO or in Haiti with MINUSTAH. Arising from Article 45 of the UN Charter, the Military Staff Committee (MSC) is supposed to plan UN operations, but is largely dormant. This, along with the fact that the main financial contributor to peacekeeping is the USA, and Donald J. Trump is largely reevaluating commitment in certain aspects of the UN, raises many questions. How can the MSC be revitalized? What amendments can be made to the UN Charter to ensure peacekeeping deviates from its path of legal ambiguity and misconduct?

Preventing the Militarization of Mars: A Legal and Security Framework for Outer Space colonization, due to the destruction of Earth

    About the committee

Mars has now become humanity’s focus as Earth faces worsening pollution, rising sea levels, and global conflict. Nations and corporations see the red planet as a chance to secure resources, influence, and a future beyond Earth. This debate will explore whether Mars will be a peaceful new beginning or will history repeat itself as humans will struggle for power, and militarize another planet.

    About the committee

In this year’s DISEC committee, delegates will tackle the complex and evolving issue of Establishing Regulations on the Usage of Unconventional Weaponry, with a focus on Ultrasonic Weapons (Long Range Acoustic Devices) and Weather Modification Technologies. These emerging tools—often operating in legal gray areas—have seen controversial use in conflict zones, protest suppression and crowd control, raising urgent questions about human rights, sovereignty, and international oversight. Delegates will explore existing loopholes, debate the ethical and strategic implications of these weapons, and work toward crafting a comprehensive international framework to govern their use in both conflict and civilian contexts. Step into the global arena—your resolution could redefine warfare.

Discussing the practices of implementing gender quotas during elections

    About the committee

Underrepresentation of women in legislative bodies is a global problem, and various countries have came up with different ways to approach this issue. One of these is the implementation of gender quotas, requiring a certain number of elected politicians to be women. However, this practice has proven controversial in multiple regions, with critics equating it to a reinforcement of the sexist belief that women need such aids to get into parliaments in the first place. Thus, it is important to discuss the continuation of such practices, and best ways to approach the matter while mitigating the underlying issue of gender inequality in political representation.

Addressing violations of the rights of workers in the fast fashion industry

    About the committee

The fast fashion industry has been known for its exploitative practices. While people in high-income countries consume billions of pieces of clothing every year, garment workers are almost always severely underpaid and often forced to work in unsafe conditions. Meanwhile, fast fashion companies profit from the cheap labor and avoid accountability for these unethical practices. The committee will focus on creating frameworks to prevent such abuses of workers’ rights.

Examining the future of research reactors with special emphasis on medical radioisotopes

    About the committee

Research reactors play a crucial role in healthcare by producing medical radioisotopes for cancer treatment and diagnostics. However, challenges like ageing infrastructure, limited international cooperation, and nuclear safety concerns threaten a stable supply. Disruptions can severely affect access to essential medical procedures, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The committee will investigate international frameworks to modernise reactor infrastructure, ensure safe isotope production, and promote global cooperation for equitable access to these vital resources.

Addressing affordable urban housing in rapidly growing cities

    About the committee

The lack of affordable housing has become a burning issue for many states, especially in developed countries. Not only is it considered as a basic human right, but also has an enormous effect on the workforce or local economy. Without implementing regulations the inequality between high—income house owners and low- or medium-income families will grow, causing social tensions. Our committee will focus on discussing why accessible housing is important, creating policy which could be implemented in respective states and addressing and evaluating the already existing solutions

    About the committee

Artificial Intelligence and cryptocurrency mining are becoming increasingly used by governments and industries. While these technologies support economic and digital development, AI requires important computing infrastructure and cryptocurrency mining consumes huge amounts of energy. This harms our planet. How can we encourage innovation and development while minimizing environmental impacts caused by these technologies?

    2. Committee under the honorary patronage of PLL LOT

    About the committee

Unauthorised transport of goods such as weapons, drugs, people and contraband, especially in areas affected by conflict, poses a serious threat to international security, regional stability, and aviation safety. In the majority of conflict zones, poor government authority and weakened control systems offer leeway for non-state actors and criminal networks to utilise private aircraft and cargo flights for smuggling operations. These planes usually operate with little oversight, making them difficult to detect and intercept.
