What is wargame committee ?

A wargame is a board game where the delegate represent, alone or in teams, the generals of the armies involved. You have to put yourself in the place of a military leader who defines a strategy for his army, who coordinates with his allies (if he has any...), in short, the search for victory in the disposition of the troops.

Once the fighting has begun, it is necessary to adapt to the reality of the front: what tactics will be the best to achieve victory in battle? Breakthrough, outflanking or shelling your opponent from a distance?
The resolutions of your choices, fights, questions will be the subject of dice rolls which allow the referees to decide if you are more or less successful in your action.

The Wargame is a war simulation, so beyond the battle and the war itself, you will have to take into account and organise your logistics, intelligence, supplies, conscription…

What is crisis committee ?

A crisis committee is a decision making body that has more power than a traditional committee.  Crisis committees produce action ! This means that the body has power unto itself that does not need to be granted by the obedience of its members. Groups that look like this include a cabinet, a royal court, a board of directors of a company, a rebel group, or really any small group which possesses political power.

    2. Ensuring children's nutrition and development in regards to climate change

    About the committee

The United Nations Children’s Fund, more commonly referred to as UNICEF, was established in the aftermath of World War II to help children whose lives and futures were at risk. With more than 75 years of activity today, this agency works in over 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. Besides all the humanitarian and sanitary crises that touch upon children’s lives, climate change is also a direct threat to a child’s ability to survive, grow, and thrive. Even though children are the least responsible for climate change, they will still bear the greatest burden of its impact. This is the first time in history that a global generation of children will grow up in a world made far more dangerous and uncertain as a result of a changing climate and degraded environment. Hence, your duty as LyonMUN 2023 delegates will be to come up with recommendations and resolutions to build the future all the children deserve!

    About the committee

Created by the Washington Treaty on 4 april 1949, NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance between European and North American countries that collectively agree to mutual defense. Today, the alliance has 30 state members, through North America and Europe. The main principle is its principle of collective defense: an attack against one or several of its members is considered an attack against all (Article 5 of the Washington Treaty). The actions that NATO can take to ensure security at all levels include taking an active role in several crisis-management operations and missions, innovating and developing the means to respond to threats, or even cooperating with international operations to ensure the success of NATO-led operations and missions. Consensus between member states is needed to make decisions. NATO is not exclusively focused on direct security matters but also has a political, diplomatic and cultural dimension to it. NATO's functioning and operations are slightly different from most international organizations, since its decision-making process is essentially ruled by the principle of unanimous consensus. Consensus decision-making means that there is no voting at NATO. Instead, to pass a “NATO decision”, members are engaged in a continuous process of consultations, until an agreeable position is reached.

    About the committee

The Southern Common Market, commonly known as Mercosur, is an economic agreement shared by most Latin American states. The four countries that initiated it were Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, and the idea they promoted was the creation of a common market to respond to the economic integration needed in the region. This common market came into force in 1994 and symbolizes the "open regionalism" movement with the aim of making Latin America more attractive and liberalizing its market. Mercosur has a real structure and favors trade rules that benefit the member states. It is for this reason that Mercosur is very important in an international dynamic of openness and increasingly developed international relations.

For this committee, all speeches and oral procedures will be held in arabic. All written documents (working papers, draft resolution, MUNCommand ...) will be in english. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries OPEC (OPEP en francais) is an intergovernmental organization of 13 countries. Initiated by Venezuela, the organization was founded in Baghdad in 1960. It was headquartered in Geneva until 1965, when it was moved to Austria, although it was not a member state of the organization. Its primary mission is to “coordinate and unify the petroleum policies of member states, and ensure the stability of oil markets, in order to secure an efficient, economic and regular supply of oil for consumers, a stable income for producers, and a fair return of capital for those who invest in the oil industry." That being said, the thirteen member states as of September 2018 accounted for about 44% of global oil production and 81.5% of the world's "proven" oil reserves, giving the organization a significant impact on the world oil prices that were previously set by the so-called group of multinational oil companies "Seven Sisters". Can this once powerful cartel institution survive the openness of the oil market to competition today? Is there still an environmentally conscious future for the organization?

About the committee
