About the committee

The situation of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank remains one of the most prominent and debated issues in international politics. Since the 2023 war, Gaza has faced widespread destruction of housing and infrastructure, mass displacement, and severe shortages of food, water, medical supplies, and electricity, creating a deepening humanitarian crisis. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, numerous reports from international organizations highlight ongoing human rights concerns, including restrictions on movement, settlement expansion, and incidents of discrimination and mistreatment of Palestinian civilians. The issue continues to be a central focus within the United Nations and other international forums, with global opinion deeply divided over its causes, implications, and potential solutions.

About the committee

Many incarcerated women face limited access to healthcare, hygiene, and other basic needs. The UN Women committee will address the gendered consequences of carceral feminism, where increased policing and imprisonment are promoted as solutions to gender-based violence but often harm women instead of protecting them. Over-policing leads to rising female incarceration rates, while conditions in prisons frequently violate women’s dignity and health. This raises concerns about whether current approaches truly advance gender equality or reinforce systemic inequalities.
