Addressing the South China Sea Dispute

About the committee

The South China Sea is an area of water located between the People's Republic of China, Vietnam, Phillipines, and other countries. What used to be a sea of unused and unimportant islands has, in the 20th century, quickly become one of the most important and strategic pieces of sea and islands to own. Every country nearby claims its own rights to the area, so delegates will have to exercise excellent negotiating and debating skills to uphold their country's claims in these chaotic and turbulent territories, and deserve as much land and sea for their country as possible.

Coming up with an immediate solution to the Bosnian War Following the Fall of the Safe Area in Srebrenica on July 11th, 1995

About the committee

It's July 12th, 1995. The desperation is becoming greater by the second. By 1995, the situation in the former Yugoslav republics had become incredibly dire. The Yugoslav wars, raging since 1991, had encapsulated Bosnia and Herzegovina by 1992. It was a war fought by many factions, including the ARBiH , the VRS and the HVO. The United Nations, hoping to stop greater death tolls and give the inocent civilians of the area a safe heaven, passed the UNSC Resolution 819 in 1993. This created designated "safe zones" in the war torn country, which were under United Nations protection. Though this "safe zone" strategy worked for two years, on July 11th 1995, the Srebrenica safe zone was overrun by Republic of Srpska forces. The United Nations peacekeeping forces in the region, the "Dutchbat", has been taken hostage, and there is word going around that their freedom is being offerd in exchange for 5000 Bosniak refugees. The current plan has failed. The UN has failed. More safe areas, such as the Žepa safe area, are at risk of falling. NATO is incapable of conducting further air raids in the region due to the hostage situation. Croatia is also rumoured to be preparing to recapture the disputed Republic of Serbian Krajina, risking further loss of life. Utalizing expert level debating skills, delegates are expected to debate upon and come up with a solution to this conflict as soon as possible. This includes but is not limited to preventing the spread of war to neighboring countries(such as Croatia), liberating the hostages without giving up the lives of inocent civilians, preventing further loss of life in what has been described as "the worst crime agianst humanity since World War 2", and finally, deciding whether the UN keep operating in the region and if so, to what extent(peacekeeping or actually getting involved)?

2. Discussing the humanitarian crisis caused by the continuation of illegal Slave Trading in North Africa in 2026

About the committee

In HRC, delegates will debate potential solutions to Kurdish rights, as well as ones to the second topic, the North African Slave Trade, both topics not solved completely to this day. Topic 1: Kurds have been actively discriminated for years on end. Since the 20th century, multiple massacres have occured against them in countries which they live in. They have faced cultural and linguistic repression, political marginalization, and being deported or displaced. Topic 2: Even though it is illegal under international law, human trafficking and slavery still exist in parts of Northern Africa. These slaves have faced forced work or sexual exploitation.

About the committee

UNCTAD focuses on trade and development (as you can tell from the name). At PerriMUN, delegates of UNCTAD will debate two topics. The first is about the USA-Cuba Sanctions. The United States continue to maintain a commercial, economic, and financial embargo against Cuba. The United Nations have already asked for a lifting of the embargo multiple times, however, it continues to spread its terror over the economy of Cuba. The US have imposed sanctions on trade, investment, finance, and more. Furthermore, following President Trump's inauguration in early 2025, the Trump administration has imposed major tariffs against multiple countries, sparking a stock market crash and global fear. UNCTAD delegates will focus on providing solutions to the crash and tariffs and negotiating with the United States to help solve the issue.

About the committee

Our world has entered treacherous times. Several wars in recent years, such as the Russo-Ukrainian war or the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict, have seen an increase in the usage of Uncrewed Aerial systems, also known as drones. This drone usage, while efficient in warfare, comes with several potential harmful side effects, such as breaching other countries' air space. It is also conducted by non-state actors. It will be this committee's job to debate upon and decide what these dangers are, and set regulations in order to avoid them. However, this is not the only topic DISEC will discuss. While UN resolutions against children fighting in wars have been passed, an obscene amount of minors still are recruited and in turn, fight in armed conflicts, particularly in conflicts in Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. This committee is responsible for ensuring that this may not happen again, coming up with peaceful solutions to protect minors around the world, doing so by preventing digital recruitment, and ensuring children who have suffered this fate are able to live a normal rest of life.

Discussing potential solutions to the insufficiency of medicines and vaccines in developing countries

About the committee

The World Health Organisation is an intergovernmental organisation part of the United Nations that concerns itself with public global health and emergencies. At PerriMUN, WHO delegates will debate one topic: "Discussing potential solutions to the insufficiency of medicines and vaccines in developing countries." The committee and its topic is designed for first- and second-timers still learning about Model UN. Topic description: Developing countries are considered to be those with less industrialisation and a lower HDI (Human Development Index) compared to more developed ones. Since they are less developed, the countries aren't capable of producing some or any of their medicines and vaccines, which can cause an issue in preventing and stopping epidemics. In this committee, delegates will discuss why there is an insufficiency of medicines, as well as possible solutions to the issue. Some possibilities include: 1) Foreign Aid from other countries; 2) Setting up factories and laboratories for the mass production of medicines at a centralised location in developing countries; or 3) Improving the countries' development and economies to get them to a point where they can produce their own medicines.

About the committee

Outer Space has long been man's pipe dream. For centuries, we weren't capable of sending anything to space, and only for the past few decades were we capable of sending tiny crews into space and letting them do science experiments and research. Now, as companies such as SpaceX are emerging with high ambitions, such as a million people lving on Mars by 2050, the rules and laws of Space call for reform. Since 2050 is not that far away, we need to think of the chance that SpaceX does achieve their goal and colonize Mars, which means that rules of Outer Space need to be re-thought, re-evaluated, and new ones created. Over these 4 days, delegates of SPECPOL will debate about Outer Space, the proper uses of it, and international cooperation in Space exploration.
