"Use your voice"
Fighting Polarisation: Promoting Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
In today’s fragmented global order, escalating polarisation—driven by extremist ideologies and divisive rhetoric—undermines multilateral cooperation, erodes democratic legitimacy, and hinders global progress. This year's theme is a clarion call to unite under the banner of peace, justice, and strong institutions.
By fostering inclusive dialogue and accountable governance, we can mend fractured alliances, empower marginalized voices, and cultivate resilient societies capable of withstanding the pressures of an increasingly volatile geopolitical landscape.
Your engagement in this dialogue will contribute to a transformative agenda, one that aspires to rebuild trust and renew the spirit of international collaboration. Let us collectively reimagine a future where unity prevails over division, and where our shared commitment to justice and peace paves the way for a more stable, inclusive world.
What to expect at LeiMUN
An unforgettable experience at Leiden University’s annual Model United Nations conference! We are thrilled to reintroduce our conference to the international community for the third year in a row from May 30th until the 2nd of June 2025.
In the warm spring months in the Netherlands, our Secretariat is proud to say that in 2025, LeiMUN is doing more:
- four-day conference runtime (with three days of committee sessions)
- 250 delegates expected spread over eight committees
- organizing visits to various embassies and international organizations in the Hague
the first LeiMUN Gala, a beach social & more!
Two cities, one conference
Leiden and The Hague are only 17 kilometers away from one another and are connected via frequent and reliable rail service that only takes 10 minutes each way! While they are close, each destination provides a unique ambiance, culture and history.
Leiden:
The city of keys, charming canals & the home town of our host–Leiden University. With 2025 marking 450 years since the founding of Leiden University, the spirit of knowledge has been cultivated and ever entrenched in Leiden's core characteristics. Buildings dotted around the medieval city have supported the minds of great thinkers like Hugo Grotius, René Descartes and even Albert Einstein.
With little aesthetic change in the last centuries, Leiden's atmosphere leaves something to behold.
For LeiMUN 2025, the city of Leiden is where all committee sessions will be held. Specifically, they will be taking place in the Kamerlingh Onnes Building (Faculty of Law). Including opening and closing ceremonies!
The Hague:
Coined internationally as the city of peace & justice, The Hague serves as the seat of the Dutch government, home of various government ministries (including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and intergovernmental institutions like the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Europol, and the International Criminal Court (ICC). Additionally, there are over 110 embassies operating in the city with various other NGOs contributing to the truly electric diplomatic environment.
For LeiMUN 2025, the city of peace & justice will serve as our social's hub. With events being held for three straight days around the Hague. More precise information on location will be provided in due time.
Our standing mission is to enable all university students to use their voice.
As simplistic as that statement may sound, our student-led Secretariat sincerely believes that when given a platform to speak upon pressing global issues, students more openly and regularly seek to communicate their solutions with peers, family and their professional life. By wielding the power to use your voice, we aim to inspire all of our peers to forward the cause of peace and justice in a rule-based world order.
Whether you’re debating in committee sessions, networking with like-minded peers, or immersing yourself in the culture of our host cities, LeiMUN 2025 will be an experience to remember.
Beginners, we want you!
