The KU Leuven Model United Nations Association (KULMUN) is a student-led association driven by the passion for debate, international politics, and connecting diverse people with diverse opinions. We host Belgium's best and biggest annual Model United Nations conference and are known for our strong academics and engaging social activities that take place in the beautiful hidden gem of the country: Leuven. 

This year we are proud to announce our theme: Beyond the Battlefield: Multidimensional Conflict in the 21st Century.

In an increasingly interconnected world, the nature of conflict has evolved beyond what is considered traditional warfare. As such, it can no longer be understood solely through this lens. Despite armed conflict remaining a salient issue in the contemporary world, the 21st century has signaled the birth of new dimensions of conflict, ranging from cyber operations, economic coercion and information warfare to climate security, the weaponization of migration, and ideological unrest. In addition, these novel forms of conflict extend beyond national borders, resulting in the creation of new transnational challenges.

The theme invites participants to explore the evolving nature of conflict and challenge the adequacy of existing diplomatic, legal, and institutional frameworks governing the contemporary world order. Crises of various natures will be addressed, interweaving with multidimensional conflict settings, which the Delegates will address in their deliberations. How can the international community adapt to confronting novel forms of conflict? What role does sovereignty play in the world order where traditional conflict is only a small part of a larger, multidimensional strife?
