Health without Borders: Overcoming Trade Restrictions to ensure equal vaccine access worldwide

    About the committee

In 2020, the world suffered a world wide pandemic. Whilst the fatalities due to COVID-19 were in the millions, leaders worldwide were scrambling to ensure their country receives enough vaccines. This crisis clearly showed how trade barriers significantly restrict LEDCs from gaining access to life-saving vaccines. Tarifs, export controls and intellectual property restrictions limit production and distribution, with wealthier nations often prioritizing domestic supply, thus worsening global inequality. As a result, LEDCs face higher costs and delayed deliveries. Unequal vaccine access deepens global health disparities and deprives millions from their human right to health. Equitable vaccine distribution is both a moral obligation and a global health necessity.

World on Hold: Negotiating a Nuclear Crisis

    About the committee

1962. The world is divided in two blocks, locked in an intense ideological and military rivalry. Escalating tensions create worldwide unease. Following the deployment of American nuclear missiles in Turkey, within striking distance of Soviet territory, the Soviet Union decides to respond accordingly by stationing military vessels near Cuba, equipped with nuclear-capable missiles. This move brings the confrontation dangerously close to American shores. The world has never been closer to a Third World War than in the time span of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Diplomacy will have to prove that conflicts can be cleared through dialogue - or can’t they?
