Fictional Committees in Model UN

A fictional committee is set in an invented world from a book, film or myth, and each delegate plays one of its characters. The story's rules replace real-world facts: wizards can debate relations with Muggles, and Greek gods can be tasked with solving climate change. Some run as crisis committees, whose crisis staff keep adding problems to the story.

Fictional Committees in Model UN: quick answers

How many delegates are in a fictional committee?

As many characters as the organizers choose to seat from the story.

Do delegates in a fictional committee represent countries?

Rarely: seats are the story's characters, such as Albus Dumbledore or Hermione Granger in a Harry Potter committee, or gods in a committee on Greek myth.

Is a fictional committee good for beginners?

Yes: with no country position to defend, delegates take bolder steps, and in one council of Greek gods the shyest delegates ended up speaking the most.

How do delegates prepare for a fictional committee?

They study the source: the book, film or myth fixes each character's powers, allies and enemies, and the committee starts at a set point in the story, such as just after the Battle of Naboo in a Star Wars committee.
