The Perkiomen School proudly presents PerkioMUN, a one-day, in-person Model United Nations conference designed to accommodate delegates of all experience levels.

PerkioMUN offers two committee options:

Ad-Hoc Crisis Committee (Organized Crime Theme)
This committee will center on a dynamic organized crime scenario. Delegate roles and background materials will be assigned on the day of the conference, preserving an element of discretion and adaptability.

General Assembly: Consequences of the Fashion Industry
Delegates will engage in substantive debate regarding the global fashion industry and its far-reaching environmental and social implications. Topics will include labor practices, sustainability, and the broader impact of fast fashion on developing economies and natural resources. Participants will be expected to propose comprehensive and actionable international solutions.

    About the committee

    The global fashion industry has experienced rapid expansion due to increased consumer demand. The rise of fast fashion has resulted in significant environmental and social challenges. Historically rooted in small-scale, handmade production, the fashion industry has evolved through industrialization and globalization into a system characterized by mass production and outsourced labor in developing countries. While this shift in industry has enabled lower production costs, it has contributed to widespread labor concerns, including unsafe working conditions, inadequate wages, and the continued use of child and forced labor. The fast fashion industry is also a major contributor to global pollution and resource depletion. It has been especially accused of substantial carbon emissions, extensive water consumption, and a heavy reliance on synthetic, plastic-based materials such as polyester. Despite growing international awareness and initiatives to promote sustainability and ethical labor practices, current efforts remain insufficient. Comprehensive global action is necessary to address these systemic issues effectively.
