Debates. Ideas. Solutions.
International delegates,
GVMUN is pleased to announce the ninth iteration of the Global Virtual Model United Nations Essay Competition (GVMUNEC), a contest for aspiring writers and thinkers to share their insight on the world. The competition will be composed of essay submissions from an informed international audience looking to spark change in the world. The ideas in each essay should bring a fresh, new perspective to international relations and policymaking.
Competitors will be able to choose between two prompts, as follows:
- Has globalization functioned as a vehicle for shared prosperity, or has it entrenched a new hierarchy of nations that mirrors the economic dependencies of the colonial era?
- To what extent do the political and economic structures imposed during the colonial period continue to determine the development trajectories of formerly colonized nations today?
They will need to write and submit a 600-800 word essay answering one of the prompts. Submission applications will be open on April 1st, 2025. Please attach your essay as a PDF under the position paper section with the following title format: [Name] - [Topic Number] - [Word Count]. All essays should use a Times New Roman size 12 font. Essays that do not meet all of the previous requirements will not be considered.
A works cited page is highly recommended, but not required, unless a paper has citations, in which case a works cited becomes mandatory.
June 21st is the deadline, although participants are strongly encouraged to submit their essays as early as they can.
After the submissions have been reviewed, the top three essays from each category will receive recognition through awards and posts on our social media platforms, such as Instagram and LinkedIn. Winners will also gain the opportunity to become GVMUN Interns to work with our team.
Finally, please follow our Instagram @gvmun_official, and reach out to secretariat@gvmun.com with any questions
We're looking forward to reading your submissions and reviewing your ideas,
