North American Invitational Model United Nations
NAIMUN LXI: Commit to More
Dear advisors, delegates, and friends of NAIMUN,
Greetings from Washington, D.C.! As the Secretary-General and Executive Director of NAIMUN LXI, we cannot wait to welcome you to the 61st iteration of the North American Invitational Model United Nations, held at the Washington Hilton from February 15-18, 2024.
The North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) is one of the oldest UN simulations for high school students in North America and the world. Since 1963, the conference has been a forum in which a dynamic range of young students come from around the world to seek, through discussion, negotiation and debate, solutions to the various problems of the world. NAIMUN is the largest student-run conference in the world and is staffed and managed by over 250 undergraduate students from Georgetown University, all of whom have keen interest and substantial understanding of international relations.
3,300+ high school students convene for four days, simulating their role as delegates to the United Nations from a particular nation and serving as representatives of that country's policies. Students at NAIMUN are pushed to heighten their understanding of the international system through a record-breaking 42 mini-simulations, ranging from standard committees like the UN General Assembly and the Security Council to contemporary and historical crisis simulations of various regional organizations, national cabinets, corporate boards, and political organizations.
Our theme for NAIMUN LXI is “Commit to More.” We recognize how rewarding Model UN is as a tool to encourage youth engagement with global issues and instill valuable skills in students. We can provide a large-scale and immersive conference experience for delegates, however, it’s up to YOU to take advantage of this experience and Commit to More by taking the extra step in committee, engaging critically with the world around you, and recognizing that Model UN is more than a competition. We hope that NAIMUN LXI will provide delegates with skills, knowledge, and experience that they will carry with them long after they leave the Hilton in February.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns regarding the upcoming conference, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Registration, Roma Jha, at naimun@modelun.org.
All the best,
Romita Chattaraj and Daniel Wachman
Executive Director and Secretary-General, NAIMUN LXI
