FROM MOTHENBURG TO THE WORLD

Welcome fellow delegates and chairs to a MUN, organised by UF Malmö and UF Gothenburg. Following two successful editions, Mothenburg is back for its third edition!

About the conference

The event will take place from Friday the 27th until Sunday the 29th of November at Malmö University in southern Sweden.

This edition’s topic, which is, ‘Global Migration Crisis and Tensions Between Transit, Origin and Destination Countries’, aims to explore and provide further comprehension of migration routes and the impact they have economically, socially, and politically.

Migration flows generate tensions among countries of origin, transit, and destination; putting global governance to the test. Due to that, international migration has become one of the major geopolitical, social, and economic challenges of the 21st century, and it requires the coordination of responsibilities for security, development, economic needs, and human rights. 

At Mothenburg, we encourage participants to explore these phenomena with diplomacy, eloquence, and critical analysis; combined with a collaborative, proactive, versatile, and solution-oriented mindset.

Our Committees

We are happy to announce that Mothenburg will have 6 committees, both for beginners and intermediate delegates.

Beginner:

• Human Rights Council: Protection of Human Rights for Migrants and Refugees when Deportations or Detentions Occur.
• General Assembly 3rd (Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural issues): Irregular Migration by Sea: Shared Responsibilities in Rescues and Repatriations.
• European Union: Internal Tensions Over the Distribution of Migrants and the Management of External Borders.

Intermediate:

• Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC): Economic impact of Remittances and Labour migration in Developing Countries.
• International Organization for Migration (IOM): Competition Between Powers to Attract Foreign Labour in the Midst of a Demographic Crisis.
• Security Council: Migration Routes as Triggers for Regional conflict: The Balkans, Central America and the Mediterranean.

In Mothenburg, not only debates and workshops will be offered. Be ready to expect ice-breaker activities, a city tour, welcome gala, afternoon’s mingling, networking, socials and more!

Friday 27/11:

• Optional workshop, primarily addressed for beginners, to all delegates that may be newer to MUN, in order to ease into Mothenburg 
• Social activity with committees, TBA
• Welcome gala

Saturday 28/11:

• General Assembly and keynote
• Beginning of committee sessions
• Social event after the last committee session, TBA

Sunday 29/11:

• Last committee session
• General Assembly
• Closing ceremony & awards
• Pictures, mingling, and a social event, TBA
