About

Debates. Ideas. Solutions.

Greetings international delegates,

Welcome to the ninth Global Virtual Model United Nations Conference (GVMUNC), hosted on September 20th, and based in Bridgewater, New Jersey! Join us for the day as we introduce ideas, debate solutions, and finally implement resolutions. Participate in a growing international committee of diplomacy and discussion, and prove your skills as a Model UN delegate.

For this iteration, GVMUN is offering delegates the option between two different committees, ranging from beginner to advanced. They are as follows:

  1. Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM) - Beginner -  Delegates in this committee will represent all UN member states, and will debate addressing food insecurity in post-conflict regions, as well as combating gender-based violence in militaries.
  2. Fictional Crisis (Harry Potter) - Advanced - This committee is set in the year 1998, and delegates represent various characters in the Harry Potter world during a struggle for power directly after the death of Dumbledore.

______________________________________________________________

Each committee will have three awards, as follows:

  • Best Delegate - 1
  • Outstanding Delegate - 1
  • Best Research and Preparation - 1

Note that a position paper, while not required, is strongly suggested for award eligibility. Delegates must research their topic thoroughly, starting with the provided topic briefs, and prepare for the committee. Additionally, make sure to check the code of conduct, and reach out to us if you have any questions. The email is: gvmunsecretariat@gmail.com

Additionally, please follow our Instagram @gvmun_official to support us and receive updates

We hope to see you on September 20th for a day of collaboration, debate, and solutions.

Your Secretary-Generals,

Kush Dave and Ayushmaan Mukherjee

    About the committee

The Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM) is a General Assembly committee that focuses on promoting and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms worldwide. It addresses a wide range of global issues, including the rights of refugees, elimination of racism and discrimination, protection of children, and humanitarian concerns in conflict zones. As one of the six main UNGA committees, SOCHUM plays a critical role in advancing international norms through resolutions and cooperative dialogue. At GVMUNC IX, delegates will represent all 195 UN member states, and will perform consensus-building on pressing human rights challenges. Designed for beginner-level delegates, SOCHUM offers a welcoming platform to develop skills in research, public speaking, and policy negotiation.

Following the death of Albus Dumbledore, Hogwarts has become a fractured battleground. With Voldemort yet to fully reveal himself and the Ministry weakened, power struggles erupt within the castle. Professors, students, magical creatures, and former allies now find themselves divided—some vying for control, others fighting to preserve unity. As alliances shift and loyalties are tested, delegates must navigate a rapidly escalating conflict where no side is entirely good or evil. Will you defend Hogwarts tradition, lead a student revolution, or forge an uneasy alliance to secure magical Britain’s future? This committee blends political intrigue, magical strategy, and dynamic crisis updates, challenging delegates to balance ideology with survival in the most iconic fortress in the wizarding world.

The International Press is not a traditional committee; delegates will work as journalistic reporters covering the happenings of the conference as a whole by observing other committees, interviewing delegates and chairs, and reviewing resolution papers. They will then work on a comprehensive press release.
