Preferences
When choosing a committee and country for a MUN conference, it's essential to consider both your experience level and your interests. If you are new to MUN, you might want to start with a committee that deals with broad, well-known issues. More experienced delegates might prefer specialized committees or crisis committees, which can be more challenging. Don´t forget to choose a committee that discusses topics you are passionate about. This will make your research and participation more engaging and enjoyable.Selecting a country to represent can be a difficult choice. Ask yourself:
- Am I comfortable advocating for this country's policies and stance on the issue? Keep in mind that one of the purposes of a MUN is to represent a country that may have different views from your own. This exercise helps you understand and empathize with different perspectives.
- Do I want to represent a country that is directly involved in the conflict being addressed? This requires a deep understanding of the country's policies, motivations, and historical context. This role can offer a unique opportunity to delve into the complexities of international relations and conflict resolution, providing a more immersive and insightful experience. However, it also demands careful navigation of sensitive issues and a balanced representation of the country's stance.
- Are there sufficient resources and information available on this country's stance and policies? Some country may have an amazing data base to find their legislation, unfortunately others required hours and horus of searching.
- Do I want to represent a country with a unique or less commonly represented perspective? Representing a country with a unique or less commonly heard perspective can be super interesting and give you a standout voice in discussions, but it might be tough because there's less info out there, so you'll need to dig deeper to get their stance.
