About

HISTORICAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Diplomacy · History · Strategy

Welcome to the Historical Model United Nations (Historical MUN), an international simulation where history, diplomacy, and strategic decision-making come together.

Through five historical committees, delegates will step into the roles of world leaders, diplomats, political representatives, and intelligence officials during some of the most defining moments of modern history.

From the global conflict of the Second World War and the ideological tensions of the Cold War to the Munich Crisis of 1938, the Spanish Civil War, and the secretive world of intelligence agencies, participants will face complex challenges that demand critical thinking, negotiation, leadership, and diplomatic skill.

Delegates are expected to represent their assigned countries or historical figures, defend their positions, negotiate with other participants, and work toward solutions while navigating competing interests and rapidly evolving crises.

Historical accuracy, respectful debate, collaboration, and strategic thinking will be at the heart of this experience.

History has already been written. Now, it is your turn to face the decisions that shaped it.

Welcome to the table. The world is waiting for your decisions.

    About the committee

THE WAR COUNCIL: WORLD WAR II 1939–1945 Europe is engulfed in war. Following Germany’s invasion of Poland in September 1939, the conflict rapidly expands into a global struggle involving the world’s major powers. As alliances are formed and battlefields multiply, nations must confront military threats, political rivalries, economic pressures, and the uncertain future of the international order. The Allied and Axis powers pursue competing objectives, while neutral countries attempt to protect their sovereignty amid an increasingly dangerous world. Every diplomatic decision, strategic alliance, and political calculation may influence the course of the war. As representatives of the nations involved in this historic conflict, delegates must defend their countries’ interests, negotiate with allies and adversaries, respond to rapidly changing international developments, and consider the consequences of their decisions for the future of Europe and the world. Will the nations unite to defeat their enemies, or will competing ambitions reshape the course of history? The fate of the world is in your hands.

    About the committee

THE NUCLEAR BRINK: THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS, 1962 October 1962 The world stands on the brink of nuclear war. In October 1962, the discovery of Soviet nuclear missile installations in Cuba triggers one of the most dangerous confrontations of the Cold War. The United States demands the removal of the missiles, while the Soviet Union defends its strategic interests and Cuba fears a potential American invasion. As tensions escalate, military forces are placed on high alert, diplomatic relations deteriorate, and every decision risks triggering a global catastrophe. Meanwhile, other nations must decide whether to support Washington, stand with Moscow, defend Cuba’s sovereignty, or pursue a diplomatic solution. Delegates will represent the governments and key international actors involved in this crisis, negotiating under immense pressure to protect their national interests while preventing a nuclear conflict. Will diplomacy prevail, or will the world descend into nuclear war? The fate of global peace rests in your hands.

The Sudetenland Crisis and the Munich Agreement: Preventing War in Europe (September 1938).

    About the committee

THE MUNICH CRISIS, 1938 September 1938 Europe stands on the edge of war. Tensions between Germany and Czechoslovakia have reached a critical point as Adolf Hitler demands the annexation of the Sudetenland, a region of Czechoslovakia inhabited largely by ethnic Germans. Meanwhile, Britain and France seek a diplomatic solution to prevent another devastating European conflict, while Italy attempts to mediate between the major powers. The future of Czechoslovakia, the stability of Europe, and the credibility of international diplomacy are at stake. As representatives of the major powers and other European states, delegates must navigate complex negotiations, conflicting national interests, and mounting pressure to reach a peaceful settlement. Every decision will have consequences, and the choices made during this conference may reshape the course of European history. Will diplomacy preserve peace, or will Europe descend into war? The fate of a continent rests in your hands.
