TritonMUN is Model UN at UC San Diego's official high school level conference, hosted in the Price Center on the UCSD campus. Staffed entirely by UCSD students in Model UN, TritonMUN is an excellent way for high schoolers to test and enhance their skills in speech, diplomacy, and international politics in one of the many committees TritonMUN has to offer. We are proud to host two conferences annually in the fall and spring, and our upper secretariat works hard to ensure the best conference experience for all of our delegates.

As we approach the conference date, October 25th, 2026, make sure to refer to the website and check your email inbox for updates. Additionally, make sure to sign up for our conference mailing list! We hope to see you all in-person this fall. As always, reach out to tritonmun.ucsd@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Committees

  • As humanity pursues a safer, more equitable place for all, one concern overlooked by many is the stability (or lack thereof) of food development throughout the world. From war and poverty to natural disasters and climate change, many obstacles impede the production and transportation of food, affecting nearly 2.3 billion people worldwide. Technological advancements are poised to revolutionize our current systems of food distribution and growth. However, they can be extremely disruptive to local environments and communities, and often lead to the death of traditional techniques and culture. Should humanity pursue the spread of technology in an effort to modernize our current systems of food distribution and growth? Or should the preservation of tradition be the focal point to solving these crises? Welcome to the greatest debate between heritage and innovation.

  • The global order is not the same as it was a decade ago. The era of relative stability since the end of the Cold War is seemingly at an end, and conflict has returned to the top of global headlines. The result of these conflicts has been the undue toll placed on the ordinary civilians of these war-stricken areas, causing many to become refugees and flee to other countries. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, anti-immigrant sentiments have been on the rise all across the more economically-developed world, leaving many refugees without a viable host nation. Delegates in this committee will discuss possible solutions to protect refugees fleeing crises in the Middle East and Northern Africa, from Syria to Sudan, in the wake of growing hostilities from foreign nations and non-state actors.

  • In 481 BCE, the Achaemenid Persians ruled the largest empire of the time, stretching from India to Macedonia, Armenia to Egypt. At the westernmost end of this empire sat a handful of small Greek city-states (poleis), half of whom had already surrendered to the Persian Kings. Despite this, the region showed continued resistance to Persian expansion, with the Athenian army stopping King Darius at Marathon. His successor, King Xerxes, resolved himself to finally subjugate the lands of mainland Greece, pulling every skilled soldier, sailor, and engineer from across his many lands to conquer this final frontier. It is up to the Greek poleis to save their cities through a combination of cooperation, ingenuity, and defiance. Against this existential threat, they must either rally and work together, or fall together.

  • The rise of generative AI has changed the digital space into a realm where crime is prevalent. Transnational gangs and government actors use this technology to make highly realistic deepfake media that destabilize financial institutions and cause civil disturbances. As representatives of INTERPOL’s member states and law enforcement leadership, delegates are tasked with bridging the gap between national sovereignty and global security to combat this rising threat. In order to address these international crimes, the committee will organize joint missions, put up emergency INTERPOL notices, and develop forensic protocols to help safeguard the digital world.

  • For centuries, European political integration has only manifested in the dreams of emperors, conquerors, and dictators. Now, towards the turn of the 21st century, that dream is about to be realized through diplomacy and the hopes of liberal democracy. In Maastricht, Netherlands, representatives from the 12 member states of the European Communities are gathering to create a European Union, one which has the potential to be an unprecedented model for international relations even in the postwar liberal order. With the momentum of past steps towards European integration and the end of the Cold War, will you join your colleagues in ushering in a new era of prosperity, vibrant democracy, and optimism for Europe? Or will this new era instead be defined by mistrust, dysfunction, and a fractured continent?

  • An infrared line going from Venus to the Sun has been discovered by Dr. Irina Petrova. Dubbed the Petrova line, it has been dimming the Sun's radiance at a level catastrophic for Earth. Delegates have been assigned to Project Hail Mary, a program dedicated to discovering the cause of this dimming and saving Earth. They will plan, debate, and coordinate a response to the growing disaster in space, as well as prepare for the inevitable fallout of life on Earth. Will the denizens of this planet be able to cooperate and meet this challenge head on, or will humanity die out with their fading Sun?

  • The Philippines has just undergone significant upheaval. Over a few short years, long-time dictator Ferdinand Marcos was ousted in the EDSA Revolution, and the people elected their first female president. President Corazon "Cory" Aquino, the widow of assassinated President Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, has been elected to lead a healing country. Delegates will serve as prominent political and community leaders, each championing their own policies while working to stabilize the country. Aquino won her election with a broad coalition of disparate supporters; satisfying all of them would have to also contend with the country's existing challenges. This new administration faces natural disasters, dismantling Marcos-era policies, the threat of attempted coups, recovering from a weakened economy, and perhaps the most daunting of all, drafting a new constitution. Delegates will have to navigate these challenges in order to preserve Philippine democracy, else risking a return to the authoritarianism its people fought so hard to overthrow.

  • It is 1729, and the Pirate Lords and their allies convene in Tortuga to plan what could be their last voyage. Lord Cutler Beckett’s East India Trading Company (EITC) has secured the heart of Davy Jones, and with it, the loyalty of the feared ferryman of the dead. Led by the Flying Dutchman, the EITC armada has sunk dozens of ships and cleared the way for Beckett to wipe out piracy in the Caribbean once and for all. As members of the Brethren Court, delegates in this committee must rally together and prepare for their last stand against the might of the British Empire. Freedom, treasure aplenty, and the open seas await their triumph. But should they fail, beneath the waves, the kraken lies in wait for its next unlucky meal…

  • The events that made humanity are being erased from existence. In an attempt to prevent the rise of future civilizations, the Cybermen – a race of cyborg beings – have torn apart the events that have shaped human progress. They have altered pivotal moments from history and leave the future of Earth uncertain. Standing against them is The Doctor, a Time Lord and galactic protector in his phone booth-shaped time machine, the TARDIS. The Doctor invites delegates aboard the TARDIS across time and space to recover the lost turning points of history and restore the course of civilization. From the rise and fall of great empires to the conflicts that defined the modern world, delegates will confront events that shaped society as we know it and determine the course of history to secure humanity’s future. Every decision made in the past will shape the world that follows. Consequences may not become clear until it is too late. As the Cybermen work to dismantle the foundations of humanity, delegates must race against time to save the history that made today’s world possible.
