    1. The Question of Child Soldiers.
    2. The Question of Attributing Human Rights to People with Sociopathic Disorders.

    UNHRC

    Beginner · English · 17 countries

    Topics

    1. The Question of Child Soldiers.
    2. The Question of Attributing Human Rights to People with Sociopathic Disorders.

    About the committee

Topic 1: The Question of Child Soldiers. Regardless of how children are recruited and their roles, child soldiers are victims, whose participation in conflict bears serious implications for their physical and emotional well-being. They are commonly subjected to abuse and witness death, killing, and sexual violence. This chaos can result in a separation between family members, including children from their parents. This separation leaves children without any means of safety or security, so they choose to become child soldiers as a form of protection. Topic 2: The Question of Attributing Human Rights to People with Sociopathic Disorders. The question of the attribution of human rights to people with sociopathic disorders. There is no debate about the fact sociopathy is a real condition that interferes with or precludes the capacity for empathy and remorse. However, there is debate about how sociopathy should be viewed. Should they have human rights like everyone else? Or should they be treated differently?

    Topics

    1. Ensuring future equality of distribution of vaccines between countries during a pandemic.
    2. The Global Impact of an Aging Population.

    About the committee

Topic 1: Ensuring future equality of distribution of vaccines between countries during a pandemic. Ensuring future equality of distribution of vaccines between countries during a pandemic. Vaccines should be allocated across all countries based on needs and regardless of their economic status. Access to and allocation of vaccines should be based on principles grounded in the right of every human to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic, or any other social condition. Topic 2: The Global Impact of an Aging Population. The social and economic implications of an aging population are becoming increasingly apparent in many industrialized nations around the globe. Policymakers are confronted with several interrelated issues, including a decline in the working-age population, increased healthcare costs, unsustainable pension commitments, and changing demand drivers within the economy. These issues could significantly undermine the high living standard enjoyed in many advanced economies.

    UNWOMEN

    Topics

    1. Women in Conflict Zones.
    2. Underage Marriage.

    About the committee

Topic 1: Women in Conflict Zones. The initiative also aims to empower women and girls to assume leadership roles in their communities by enhancing their decision-making skills and allowing them to contribute effectively within their communities. In conflicted-affected areas around the world, women peacebuilders are already working toward these goals. Often without institutional support and always at great personal risk, they continue to advocate, mediate and negotiate for a better future. Topic 2: Underage Marriage. Child marriage is formal or informal union before the age of 18. It is a violation of children's human rights and a form of gender-based violence that robs children of childhood. Child marriage also disrupts their education and drives vulnerability to violence, discrimination, and abuse. Early marriage seriously harms the development and well-being of girls, through limited education and employment opportunities, social isolation, domestic violence, and rape.

    1. Space Security and Militarization.
    2. The Question of Access to Space for All.

    UNOOSA

    Intermediate · English · 17 countries

    Topics

    1. Space Security and Militarization.
    2. The Question of Access to Space for All.

    About the committee

Topic 1: Space Security and Militarization. As much as this issue seems like one of the distant future, the sheer amount of satellite presence within our exosphere shows plausible promise of the roots of military tactics. Governments worldwide have already attempted to establish a military presence beyond our atmosphere. Powerful nations have already begun grass root level preparations for tactical space strategies via their in-orbit satellites. These satellites provide extensive intelligence to national agencies and establish the nation’s dominance within the earth’s atmosphere with large coverage areas that only gain more intel with a broader range of coverage. The farther our network extends, the more severe the plausibility of a cyber-attack becomes. Topic 2: The Question of Access to Space for All. Under the Access to Space for All initiative launched in 2018, UNOOSA has consolidated several existing workstreams and developed new partnerships with a range of space stakeholders to make space-based benefits more accessible to communities worldwide. Should there be access to space for all is a debatable question with different opinions and different points of view. Will this “access” come with advantages or disadvantages?

    1. Examining the Relationship Between the Legalization of Marijuana and Drug-Related Crime.
    2. Measures to Prevent the Traffic of Falsified Medical Products.

    About the committee

Topic 1: Examining the Relationship Between the Legalization of Marijuana and Drug-Related Crime. Examining the relationship between the legalization of marijuana and drug-related crime. Some members of the international community have taken steps toward the legalization of marijuana, bringing forth a key debate between this legalization and the crime that often accompanies it when it is illegal. With drug-related crimes decimating populations and state legitimacy across the world, any actions that could improve or alleviate the damaging effects on society are welcome. Topic 2: Measures to Prevent the Traffic of Falsified Medical Products. UNODC published in 2019 a Guide to Good Legislative Practices on Combating Falsified Medical Product-Related Crime to support countries in enacting or strengthening domestic legislation in this area and in protecting public health. States can use the guide as a practical tool to draft, amend, or review relevant national legislation. The guide uses the definition of falsified medical products adopted in 2017 by the World Health Assembly and does not distinguish between generic and originator products.

    1. Monitoring of Anonymity Through Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
    2. The Question of Preventing Illicit Cross-Border Trafficking.

    UNSC

    Intermediate · English · 16 countries

    Topics

    1. Monitoring of Anonymity Through Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
    2. The Question of Preventing Illicit Cross-Border Trafficking.

    About the committee

Topic 1: Monitoring of Anonymity Through Technology and Artificial Intelligence. The basic definition of privacy has the power to seclude oneself or information about oneself to limit the influence others can have on our behavior. Privacy has been traditionally recognized as a prerequisite for exercising human rights such as freedom of expression, freedom of association, and freedom of choice. Privacy hinges on our ability to control how our data is stored, modified, and exchanged between different parties. Topic 2: The Question of Preventing Illicit Cross-Border Trafficking. Concerned that illicit cross-border trafficking in arms, drugs, chemical, and biological weapons, and other goods amplified threats to international peace and security posed by armed conflict, terrorism, weapons proliferation, and transnational organized crime, the Security Council today invited the Secretary-General to submit, in six months, an assessment of the United Nations work to help States counter those challenges. The threat requires multidisciplinary responses that integrate the rule of law and development while ensuring respect for human rights and victims.

    1. Reducing Marine Time Pollution, Including Plastic.
    2. Sustainable Transportation For Better Air Quality in Urban Areas.

    UNCSD

    Intermediate · English · 16 countries

    Topics

    1. Reducing Marine Time Pollution, Including Plastic.
    2. Sustainable Transportation For Better Air Quality in Urban Areas.

    About the committee

Topic 1: Reducing Marine Time Pollution, Including Plastic. The stakes are high when we consider how intrinsically linked the health of our oceans is to our environmental, social, and economic well-being. The ocean is not only a victim of climate change, it is also a vital part of the solution. A healthy ocean plays a vital role in our fight against climate change. But it needs help. Marine wildlife such as seabirds, whales, fish, and turtles mistake plastic waste for prey; most then die of starvation as their stomachs become filled with plastic. They also suffer from lacerations, infections, reduced ability to swim, and internal injuries. Topic 2: Sustainable Transportation For Better Air Quality in Urban Areas. Urban mobility is rapidly becoming one of the most significant challenges facing developed and developing countries alike. Transport is estimated to be responsible for nearly a quarter of global energy-related CO2. There are also rising concerns about its impact on the quality of urban life, including social inequities, and about the effects of its pollution on health and buildings. There is a growing consensus on the need for more sustainable patterns of transport activities. This requires a fundamental shift in investment patterns based on the principles of avoiding or reducing trips through integrated land-use and transport planning. Moreover, it is necessary to shift to more environmentally friendly modes of transport and improve vehicles and fuels, which is a priority to reduce urban air pollution and greenhouse gas emission.
