It is our Secretariat’s greatest honor and privilege to welcome you to the 2026 ODU Model United Nations Conference, ODUMUNC 49, at the Norfolk Sheraton Waterside Hotel. All conference details are on-line at https://www.odu.edu/modelun/conference

Our 2026 conference is inspired by our staff visit to the UN in May 2025. Our guide, from Berlin, noted how many issues around the world don’t get the attention they need or deserve, crowded out of a very short news cycle.

Many people and issues in dire need of UN attention often are a secondary focus, pushed aside by matters of greater political importance. These include the deadliest war happening anywhere today, in Sudan, women's education, the spread of conventional weapons, prevention of non-communicable diseases, or reform of the UN itself. Overlooked, but only at grave cost, these kinds of issues inspire the theme for this year's ODUMUNC Beneath the Headlines.

Beneath the Headlines focuses attention on people and issues that deserve more attention in front of the world stage. Bringing hundreds of delegates to the Norfolk to work to show the progress that can be made on these problems, or the barriers that remain to be overcome, is our greatest honor.
