Confident to persuade, prepared to compromise
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the 2027 edition of Karinthy Model United Nations (KarMUN), which this year will take place between the 17th and 20th of March, 2027.
The conference is held at Karinthy Frigyes Gimnázium, situated in the 18th district of Budapest, the welcoming and culturally vibrant capital of Hungary. Our now annually organised conference was first established in 2005, which makes it the first of its kind in our country. Over the years we have grown from being a small event with no more than 30 participants, into an internationally recognised student-run conference, hosting delegates from 16 countries around
the world. Our reputation stems from cultivating a professional, yet lively and spirited environment, one that ensures each voice to be heard and valued.
Similarly to previous years, as a result of rigorous and careful planning, we are delighted to inform you that the theme of KarMUN 2027 is going to be: Confident to persuade, prepared to compromise. Throughout the history of humanity, progress has rarely been driven by acquiescence or stubborn beliefs. Prosperity emerges from balancing conviction and compromise. In order to persuade others, one must first believe in their own ideas. However, advocating fiercely for our vision is just one side of the coin. Confidence may turn into arrogance when the individual isn’t willing to pivot, even when presented with new opposing evidence. At our conference, it is our utmost priority that all delegates without exception have the opportunity to voice their ideas, so that fruitful debates may emerge, enriching our collective understanding.
Abraham Lincoln famously wrote, “I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.” In light of this perspective, KarMUN 2027 aims to emphasize that a genuine openness to being convinced is just as important as confuting the arguments of fellow students.
