What is IYMUN?
Restoring Hope
The idea behind Iraqi Youth Model United Nations (IYMUN) is to foster dialogue on creating positive change and building peace worldwide. The topics on the agenda mirror issues currently faced as much by Iraq as by the international community as a whole. From defending refugee's rights, fighting for freedom of speech, to protecting the planet we live on, the issues to be tackled by IYMUN delegates reflect accurately the concerns of the next generation of leaders; a generation that is ready to face these challenges with relentless strength and unswerving hope.
IYMUN is an invitation for young people from around the world to gather and debate on those important issues in a city that is in the process of being rebuilt after years of conflict, and that in itself represents a symbol of hope and fight for freedom: the amazing city of Mosul.
The city of Mosul
The city of Mosul, meaning โthe linking point" in Arabic, is one of the oldest cities in the world. For millennia, it has been a strategic crossing and a bridge between north and south, east and west.
Being home to people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and religious beliefs, the old city of Mosul is a semblance of tolerance and coexistence, and a testimony to the rich cultural diversity of Iraq and the region as a whole.
Until very recently, Mosul was one of the most populous urban centers in the region, and it was known for its places of knowledge, religious sites, commerce, and leisure.
It is in this unique environment, rich in history and cultural diversity, that IYMUN will welcome its delegates, coming from different parts of the world to debate in this symbolic place in a celebration of freedom and hope.
The venue
The conference will take place in a newly-built conference hall near the center of Mosul, namely the White House Hall (ูุงุนุฉ ุงูุจูุช ุงูุงุจูุถ). The delegates will be transported from their hotel to the conference venue by the IYMUN shuttle.
Delegates' accomodation
International delegates will be accomodated at the Modern Plaza International Hotel (ููุฏู ู
ูุฏุฑู ุจูุงุฒุง ุงูุฏููู) in Mosul, located only 10 minutes away from the conference venue.
Delegates' security
The IYMUN team is aware of the labeling of Iraq as or 'unsafe for travel' by several foreign governments and embassies, notably due to the events taking place from 2014 to 2016.
However, we are ready to offer a safe and secure experience to our delegates.
Not only will there be transportation and shuttle services arranged exclusively for IYMUN delegates, Security guards will also be appointed to escort international delegates from the airport to their hotel, as well as between their hotel and the conference venue . These services will be aranged throughout the entire duration of each delegate's stay, whether they chose to attend the 3-day conference only, or the Grand Tour from 10/10 to 13/10 as well.
On a side note, IYMUN is also hosting diplomatic guest speakers coming from New-York and Geneva, who positively assessed the level of safety of the event.
