In 2022, at a moment when the world often spoke about Iraqi youth rather than with them, Iraqi Youth Model United Nations (IYMUN) was founded to change the narrative.

Born in Iraq and led by Iraqi youth, IYMUN emerged from a country shaped by more than two decades of war, instability, and recovery, transforming lived experience into global engagement, dialogue, and leadership. What began as a bold national initiative quickly evolved into a respected international youth diplomacy platform, representing Iraqi and international delegates in major global forums, including Vienna, Paris, Oxford, and within the United Nations ecosystem.

In 2026, IYMUN reaches a historic milestone.

For the first time, a youth conference founded in Iraq will convene in New York, the heart of global diplomacy and human rights advocacy, held in cooperation with the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) and in engagement with American Diplomats.

Entire communities were displaced, institutions collapsed, and an entire generation of youth was forced to confront unimaginable challenges.

Yet Mosul did not disappear.

From the ashes of destruction, the city rose again, through resilience, education, and the determination of its people. IYMUN was born from this reality, standing as a living example of how youth from post-conflict societies can rebuild, lead, and contribute meaningfully to the international community.
