Greetings international delegates,

Welcome to the eighth Global Virtual Model United Nations Conference (GVMUNC), hosted on June 21st, and based in Bridgewater, New Jersey! Join us for the day as we introduce ideas, debate solutions, and finally implement resolutions. Participate in a growing international committee of diplomacy and discussion, and prove your skills as a Model UN delegate.

For this iteration, GVMUN is offering delegates the option between two different committees, ranging from beginner to advanced. They are as follows:

Interpol - Beginner - Delegates in this committee will represent all UN member states, and will debate preventing wildlife poaching and trafficking, as well as cracking down on international money laundering networks.
Historical Crisis Committee (HCC) - Advanced - This committee is set in the year 1998, and delegates will assume control over the nations of the world at the time, during the crisis of the Great War of Africa.

Each committee will have three awards, as follows:

Best Delegate - 1
Outstanding Delegate - 1
Best Research and Preparation - 1

Note that a position paper, while not required, is strongly suggested for award eligibility. Delegates must research their topic thoroughly, starting with the provided topic briefs, and prepare for the committee. The Great War of Africa Committee is a historical simulation centered on the Second Congo War (1998–2003), often referred to as "Africa's World War" due to the scale of conflict and the number of nations involved. The war erupted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) following the collapse of Laurent-Désiré Kabila's alliance and the intervention of neighboring states. What began as a domestic power struggle quickly escalated into a continental war, drawing in nine African nations and dozens of armed groups, with overlapping motives ranging from regime change and natural resource control to regional security and ethnic tensions. This committee will place delegates in the roles of national governments at a moment when diplomacy, warfare, and humanitarian concerns collide. Delegates must address questions of sovereignty, foreign intervention, and regional alliances while navigating one of the most devastating and complex conflicts of the 21st century. With shifting alliances and real-time crises, this advanced committee challenges participants to make difficult decisions under pressure—decisions that may shape the future of central Africa.

The International Press is not a traditional committee; delegates will work as journalistic reporters covering the happenings of the conference as a whole by observing other committees, interviewing delegates and chairs, and reviewing resolution papers. They will then work on a comprehensive press release.
