Political Deliberation on Terrorism and Extremism

In a region shaped by decades of conflict, political instability, and evolving security threats, Afghanistan and Pakistan remain at the center of one of South Asia’s most complex challenges: countering terrorism and violent extremism. This conference brings together political leaders and key national figures from both countries to engage in a high-stakes simulation of the political decisions, security dilemmas, and diplomatic tensions surrounding the issue.

Through two parallel committees—the Pakistan National Assembly (PNA) and the Afghanistan National Assembly (ANA)—delegates will examine the crisis from their respective national perspectives. Pakistan’s committee will address cross-border terrorism, militant networks, radicalization, border security, and the consequences of instability originating from Afghanistan, while Afghanistan’s committee will confront the presence of extremist organizations, terrorism within the country, the Taliban’s responsibilities, and Afghanistan’s strained regional relations.

The conference is designed to challenge delegates to move beyond prepared statements and engage in strategic diplomacy, political negotiation, crisis response, and evidence-based debate. Every decision carries consequences, and every alliance can reshape the course of the crisis.

Delegates will be expected to defend national interests while exploring realistic pathways toward regional stability, stronger counter-terrorism cooperation, and the reduction of violent extremism. The central question is not simply who is responsible—but what both nations are prepared to do to prevent terrorism from defining the future of the region.
