About the committee

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main deliberative, policymaking, and representative organ of the United Nations. All 193 member states are represented in the UNGA, making it the only UN body with universal membership. Each member has one vote, no matter the country’s size or power. Mandate & Functions: - Discusses and makes recommendations on international peace and security, development, international law, human rights, and global cooperation. - Approves the UN budget and elects non-permanent members of the Security Council and members of other UN bodies. - Provides a platform for countries, both big and small, to voice their opinions equally. Why it’s exciting for MUN: - Every delegate gets a chance to debate as an equal, no P5 veto power like in UNSC. - Topics are usually broad and impactful (climate change, global security, AI regulation, humanitarian aid, nuclear disarmament, etc.). - Great for beginners and intermediate delegates because it allows for creative solutions, coalitions, and bloc politics. In D-MUN : The UNGA will serve as the flagship committee, echoing the spirit of global unity. It will provide a forum for young diplomats to deliberate on issues shaping the future, in line with D-MUN’s tagline “Debating Today, Defining Tomorrow.”
