The Concordia Model United Nations Conference (ConMUN) is an annual conference for college students aged 17-25 with an interest in international relations, debate, and diplomacy. Held in the heart of downtown Montreal, ConMUN prides itself on hosting a diverse and trailblazing impact. Now at its seventh iteration, ConMUN has grown exponentially through hard work and determination. This progress has bolstered the conference’s reputation as well as Concordia’s traveling delegation, now earning it a spot in the Top 10 by Best delegate and the #1 Canadian delegation on the circuit. Attracting students from CEGEP, prestigious North American and European universities, ConMUN 2025 will be hosted in March and expects over 250 students.

Topic: Socio-economic Impacts of Environmental Policies In 2050, the world is forecasted to suffer great effects of climate change, with the main issue at hand being a water crisis. Major world cities like Mexico City are projected to run out of water, and others like Rio de Janeiro are threatened by inhabitable conditions caused by extreme flooding. The UNFCCC: Water Distribution for Urban Areas committee is dedicated to addressing these challenges, ensuring sustainable water management for cities at risk. Delegates will develop economic, social, and environmental policies to prevent or mitigate these crises. Delegates will have to create actionable frameworks to secure water security for the urban venters at risk.. Delegates must prevent a world economic, social, and environmental collapse due to the water distribution effects of climate change.
Topic: Human Gene Editing In 2020, scientists Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their ground-breaking work on CRISPR-Cas9, a well-renowned gene-editing tool. This comes in the midst of an unprecedented growth in genomics research within the medical field. With the discovery of multiple genetic variations playing an important role in human physiological outcomes, gene-editing has the potential to revolutionize the treatment of prevalent medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. However, such a remedy does not come without its fair share of risks. Within this committee, delegates will need to navigate the multiple ethical dilemmas surrounding the implementation of gene-editing therapies. Amongst other challenges, delegates will discuss the unequal access to said therapies across the world, the implications of cosmetic gene-editing known as “enhancement”, and the uncertainties surrounding the long-term effects of gene editing.
Bingo : Prison slang for when a riot has started In April 1971, Oscar Night is on its way, Pierre Eliott Trudeau is on his honeymoon and the inmates at Kingston Penitentiary have taken 6 guards hostage and seized control of the Main Dome. Delegates in this specialized agency have been called upon as a Royal Commission to put an end to the riot at Kingston Pen. Taking on the role of administration officials, academics, legal professionals and leaders in the government, delegates will also need to address the issues that have been brought up from the inmates regarding the conditions of penal institutions across Canada. Delegates here will engage in debate and look at the penitentiary past and lay the groundwork for the future of correctional services in Canada while dealing with the ongoing riot and ensuring the safety of hostages and inmates alike. Amongst other celebrities, Taylor Swift has been recently criticized for her repeated use of private jets, known to contribute to pollution that exacerbate issues such as global aquatic deoxygenation and the broader climate crisis. This Specialized Agency aims to explore the tension between the ultra-wealthy and environmental organizations advocating for the ban of private jets. It will delve into the roles and responsibilities of billionaires in championing social justice and driving change. The debate will also address the environmental impact of wealth concentration and the importance of celebrities' influence in advocating for social justice and environmental causes. Through panel discussions, case studies, and audience engagement, the agency seeks to foster balanced debates, question celebrity responsibility, and raise awareness about the importance of collective action against climate change and social injustice.
