The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) is the principal policymaking body of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. Established in 1992 by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the CCPCJ plays a central role in shaping international strategies to combat both national and transnational crime, including organized crime, corruption, and money laundering. Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, the Commission: - Develops UN standards and norms in criminal justice - Guides Member States in reforming justice systems to be more fair, efficient, and rights-based - Prepares and follows up on the UN Crime Congresses, including the implementation of declarations like the Kyoto Declaration - Oversees the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in its role as a governing body The CCPCJ also serves as a global forum where countries exchange expertise and coordinate responses to emerging threats such as cybercrime, trafficking, and environmental crime.
