Addressing the Escalation of Conflict and Strengthening International Peace and Security in the Middle East

About the committee

The Middle East is still one of the most difficult and persistent obstacles on the way of achieving international peace and security. The rise of tension, violence, humanitarian problems, refugee flows, and the emergence of rivalries are threatening the civilians' lives and the possibility of a regional conflict involving the neighboring states and outside powers. Firstly, the Security Council must react to the threat of an increasing number of conflicts, and secondly, it should deal with the political and security reasons of the regional instability. In the Security Council, the delegates should address ceasefire, humanitarian issues, safety of the civilians, diplomatic activities, stability in the region, and prevention of the escalation of the conflict. The main duty of the Security Council in accordance with its mandate and function is to maintain the international peace and security; however, it is not always possible to reach a consensus between the permanent members of the Security Council because of the national interests. Delegates will be representing different members of the Security Council and they will have to make decisions that may influence international affairs. This is why each step taken in this committee may be very important. It is up to you to decide whether the diplomacy would be able to prevent a catastrophe in the Middle East or the escalation of the conflict would lead the region to war which could not be stopped by international organizations.

Setting: Ancient Egypt, c. 1330 BCE The Succession Crisis of the New Kingdom: Securing the Future of Kemet.

About the committee

The Nile has sustained Kemet for generations, but the stability of the Two Lands now hangs in the balance. It is approximately 1330 BCE, and the great pharaoh Akhenaten is dead. His religious revolution has disrupted centuries of tradition, the royal court is divided, and the question of succession threatens to plunge Egypt into uncertainty. With the throne contested and the legitimacy of the royal household under scrutiny, powerful officials, priests, military commanders, and foreign interests all seek to shape the future of the kingdom. In this Historical Crisis Committee, delegates will assume the roles of influential figures within the Egyptian court and its wider political sphere. Rather than simply debating predetermined resolutions, participants must navigate a rapidly evolving crisis through diplomacy, political maneuvering, secret negotiations, and decisive action. Every decision may alter the course of history. Will Kemet return to the traditional worship of Amun and restore the authority of the old priesthood? Will the legacy of Aten survive? Who will control the young royal heir, and who will ultimately wield power behind the throne? As rival factions compete for influence, Egypt's enemies may seize the opportunity to test its borders, while internal instability threatens the unity of the Two Lands. The committee will challenge delegates to balance religion, legitimacy, military power, diplomacy, succession, and personal ambition. Historical knowledge will be valuable, but adaptability and strategic thinking will be essential. In a crisis committee, history is not fixed—it is shaped by the decisions made in the room. The future of Kemet is in your hands. Will you preserve the order of the New Kingdom, restore the old gods, or forge an entirely new path for Egypt?
