Say Hi to Matilde, Our Social Media Guru!

The person I talk to the most during the whole week is Matilde. And I am not just talking about a pair of messages, I am talking from 8 am to like 2 in the morning. And yes, if you are wondering, we are probably plotting our next social media strategy. 

Matilde is 24, and she is the kind of person I want to be when I grow up. She holds a Master's in European and International Law and a Bachelor's in Political Science and International Relations. Of course, as an international queen in the making, she speaks four languages! She is not only aware of the latest trending TikToks, but also when it comes to politics, she always knows what is happening. 

She currently serves as our Social Media Manager. Everything that you see on our account (except for TikTok) is her responsibility. She oversees TikTok (aka me hahaha), but Instagram is her main focus. “Our platform is also a great resource for discovering upcoming conferences through our blog and Instagram posts.  We share not just event updates but also valuable content on how to run conferences and make the most of these opportunities.”

She started MUN from Day One. On the first day of her bachelor´s, she participated in a 45-minute mini MUN. “I represented the US, and from that moment on, I was hooked.” She later joined ModelEU, where she first participated in 2022. “I met amazing people there, even though I didn´t win any awards.” However, that is not entirely true; she was voted the “Best Dressed,” which is not only an award but a fact. Her main device for someone who is starting in MUN is: “Don´t go into these events expecting to win awards. Focus on having fun, learning, and finding your own comfort zone.” 

One of her favorite experiences was participating in the Council of Europe. The actual Portuguese delegation to the Council of Europe wanted to meet her. At a post-event gathering, the ambassador himself approached her. That moment opened so many doors for her. “It made me realize I could actually apply for positions there. It was also a great push to consider living in Strasbourg, which ended up happening.” That experience also showed her the power of networking: How a single conversation can lead to unexpected opportunities and meaningful professional connections that shape the course of a career.

Working with Matilde means never having a dull moment. She is the person who can turn late-night work talks into something you actually look forward to. She always has a way of making big goals feel within reach, and soon we will be testing that theory together when we head to Poland for our next adventure (because let's be honest, Mallorca was just a warm-up).
