VM MUN 2026

Topic: Sustaining independent decision-making and sovereignty in times of rapid global change; Strategic Autonomy; European Security.  

Idea: To allow delegates to deepen their knowledge of the United Nations; European, Baltic and Lithuanian international policies with an emphasis on security aspects; and the concept of Strategic Autonomy. For the delegates to acquire and improve skills of international communication, debating and public speech. 

Short Description: An international conference aimed at attracting 80 delegates, though primarily from Lithuania. All participants are welcomed from the age of 16. It will be conducted from 13th to 14th of November, 2026. There will be four committees distributed to two groups according to their difficulty level: advanced – Crisis Committee, topic – (The topic will remain secret until three days before the start of the conference); Security Council, topic – Rising Tensions between Russian Federation and Baltic States. Ordinary – ECOFIN, topic – EU Economic Dependency on the United States and Strategic Autonomy; DISEC, topic – Addressing Shadow Fleet Activities. The conference is to consist of an Opening Ceremony, 6 Committee Sessions and a Closing Ceremony; with regular, coffee, and lunch breaks between those. The opening ceremony will be focused on introducing sponsors and carrying out secretariat speeches; committee sessions – on debating in the forms of moderated and unmoderated discussions, on drafting and accepting the resolutions on topics provided; closing ceremony – on providing the summary of the conference.  

The conference, designed according to European Model United Nations traditions, will be the first face-to-face large-scale iteration of the widespread global 105-years-old Model United Nations phenomenon in Lithuania in recent years, and one of the few events of such in the Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia). The Organization Committee – Secretariat, consists of the students of third year bachelor's program “World Politics and Economy”, taught at VMU in the Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy. These students: Artem Mykhailov, Alina Dohtiar and Yuliia Hrischenko – co-founders of MUN academic club in VMU – LUNYA, are using the experience received from participation in JagiMUN2026 conference in Krakow, Poland; in MuniMUN2026 in Brno, Czech Republic; and in Global Novice Online Model United Nations 2026.

Expected Results: The delegates will possess practical experience in public speaking, international law, structured negotiation, and communication in formal English. Lithuanian students will be more integrated in international society.
