    About the committee

Great pleasure that we welcome you to this session of the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC). The agenda item for this session is "The Effects of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) on World War II." World War II, which spanned from 1939 to 1945, was one of the most significant and devastating conflicts in human history. It not only caused profound loss of life and widespread destruction but also reshaped the world in ways that continue to influence global politics, economics, and society to this day. The war marked a turning point in international relations, as the sheer scale of its devastation forced countries to re-evaluate the nature of conflict and the potential consequences of advanced military technologies. Among the most transformative of these technologies were Weapons of Mass Destruction -particularly nuclear weapons- that played a pivotal role in the final stages of the war. The use of atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and **Nagasaki in 1945 brought an abrupt end to the war, but it also left an indelible mark on humanity. These bombings, along with the development of nuclear capabilities, not only changed the course of the conflict but also redefined the future trajectory of warfare. In this committee, delegates will explore the profound impact these weapons had on the world during and after the war, considering the moral, ethical, and geopolitical consequences of their use.

Empowering Women in Political Participation and Decision-Making Processes

    About the committee

UN Women, the United Nations agency dedicated to promoting gender equality, prioritizes the empowerment of women in political participation and decision-making processes. Despite advancements in various sectors, women remain significantly underrepresented in leadership and governance roles globally. This disparity not only limits women’s voices but also hinders the development of policies that address the needs and rights of all citizens. The agenda item on “Empowering Women in Political Participation and Decision-Making” is critical to achieving gender equality in governance. UN Women advocates for legal reforms, quotas, and initiatives that create equal opportunities for women in politics. By addressing systemic barriers such as discriminatory social norms, lack of access to resources, and limited opportunities, UN Women aims to create an environment where women can participate fully and equally in political life. This agenda also emphasizes the importance of women’s representation in shaping policies that directly impact communities. When women are involved in decision-making, studies show that issues like healthcare, education, and social justice receive greater attention. Empowering women in these roles leads to more inclusive, balanced policies that contribute to sustainable development and peace. Through partnerships with governments, civil society, and other organizations, UN Women implements programs to encourage women’s political engagement, build leadership skills, and support women candidates. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure that political systems reflect the diversity of the populations they serve, ultimately working towards a world where women’s voices are heard, valued, and impactful in all levels of decision making.
