Creating future Diplomats and youth leaders

🧭 Who We Are

SUMUN (Student United Model United Nations) is a student-led academic conference committed to nurturing diplomacy, critical thinking, leadership, and global awareness among young minds. Built by students, for students, SUMUN aims to replicate real-world international decision-making while encouraging collaboration, debate, and ethical leadership.

We believe Model United Nations is not just about debate — it is about learning to listen, negotiate, analyze, and lead responsibly in an increasingly complex world.

🏛️ What We Are

SUMUN is an independent MUN conference organization that hosts structured committee simulations based on the United Nations system. With a focused committee lineup and a strong academic foundation, SUMUN emphasizes:

  • Depth of debate over quantity of committees
  • Realistic international issues
  • Strong chairing standards
  • Meaningful delegate engagement
  • Ethical journalism and information flow

Our conference currently features three core UN committees and a specialized International Press (IP) committee that enhances realism and transparency across debates.

🎯 Our Vision

At SUMUN, we aim to:

  • Train students to think like diplomats, policymakers, and global leaders
  • Encourage respectful disagreement and consensus-building
  • Provide first-time and experienced delegates with a professional MUN experience
  • Promote responsible journalism through structured press participation

⚖️ Executive Leadership

🕊️ Secretary-General – Iniyan Vinod

The Secretary-General serves as the academic and diplomatic head of SUMUN.
Iniyan Vinod is an experienced MUNer, having participated in 8 Model UN conferences, earning Best Delegate and Special Mentions, and having served as a Chair in one conference.

With strong experience on both sides of the dais, the Secretary-General oversees:

  • Academic direction of the conference
  • Committee agendas and debate quality
  • Chair training and standards
  • Delegate experience and diplomacy

His leadership ensures that SUMUN maintains high academic rigor while remaining inclusive and student-driven.

🏗️ Director-General – Sriverssun Rengarajan

The Director-General is the administrative and operational head of SUMUN.
With experience across 12 MUN conferences, including 2 chairing roles and 2 Special Mentions, the Director-General brings deep organizational insight and executional discipline to the conference.

The Director-General is responsible for:

  • Conference planning and logistics
  • Registrations and scheduling
  • Secretariat coordination
  • Smooth on-ground execution

By combining administrative efficiency with MUN experience, the Director-General ensures that SUMUN functions as a professional organization, not just an event.

🪑 Committee Leadership (Chairs)

SUMUN prides itself on appointing capable, fair, and well-prepared chairs who guide debate with neutrality and depth.

🔐 United Nations Security Council (UNSC)

Chairs: Darshan Vetrivel & Adarsh Vasudevan
Agenda: Balancing cyber defence alliances with UNSC mandates on global disarmament

The UNSC committee focuses on high-level diplomacy, strategic decision-making, and responsibility of power. The chairs bring clarity, balance, and procedural discipline to one of the most demanding committees.

⚖️ Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ)

Chairs: Sanjai Kumar & Siva Sruthi S B
Agenda: Balancing digital privacy and global surveillance in combating transnational organized crime

CCPCJ examines modern challenges at the intersection of technology, security, and civil liberties. The chairs ensure nuanced debate while encouraging realistic policy frameworks.

🕊️ United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

Chairs: Avyukth Harish & Rishi Rajagopalan
Agenda: Refugee access to jobs and financial services

UNHCR emphasizes humanitarian diplomacy, inclusivity, and sustainable solutions. The chairs foster empathetic yet policy-oriented discussions grounded in real-world impact.

📰 International Press (IP) – Special Committee

IP Presidents: Sanaa Suresh and Nikhilan Mathankumar

The International Press (IP) is a specialized committee within SUMUN. Unlike traditional committees, IP delegates act as journalists and observers attached to UNSC, CCPCJ, and UNHCR.

The IP:

  • Reports on debates, negotiations, and outcomes
  • Conducts interviews and analysis
  • Publishes committee coverage and opinion pieces
  • Enhances realism, transparency, and accountability

Under the leadership of the IP President, the committee upholds ethical journalism while contributing meaningfully to the conference experience.
