SMMUN 2023 for diversity!

About us

Celebrating their 8th edition, the Southeast Mexican Model United Nations (SMMUN) has become the largest independently organized MUN in their region. 

For Diversity is our motto, meaning that all committees and topics will approach Diversity in their own way. We're proud to be a safe space for delegates of every age, education, nationality and identity. 

We offer committees available in person, at Mérida Yucatán, México and online committees. There's also forums with English or Spanish as the official language. Feel free to look at our full list of committees below and for more information, please check this page. Thank you!

    About the committee

    The WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health. The WHO Constitution states its main objective as 'the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health'. Its mandate seeks and includes: working worldwide to promote health, keeping the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. It advocates that a billion more people should have: universal health care coverage, engagement with the monitoring of public health risks, coordinating responses to health emergencies, and promoting health and well-being.

    The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The CEDAW Committee consists of 23 experts on women’s rights from around the world. The CEDAW treaty is a tool that helps women around the world to bring about change in their daily life. In countries that have ratified the treaty, CEDAW has proved invaluable in opposing the effects of discrimination, which include violence, poverty, and lack of legal protections, along with the denial of inheritance, property rights, and access to credit.
