About RijnMUN
RijnMUN (Rijnlands Lyceum Model United Nations) is an international Model United Nations conference organized by Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest in the Netherlands. The conference brings together students from different schools and backgrounds to step into the roles of diplomats, representing countries and discussing some of the most important political, social, economic, and humanitarian issues facing the world today.
RijnMUN is designed to create an engaging and realistic simulation of the United Nations while maintaining a welcoming and accessible atmosphere for both first-time delegates and experienced MUN participants.
The Conference
During RijnMUN, delegates are assigned a country and participate in one of several committees, each focusing on specific global issues. Throughout the conference, delegates research their country's position, deliver speeches, engage in formal and informal debate, negotiate with other countries, and work together to develop draft resolutions addressing the issues under discussion.
The conference encourages delegates to look beyond their own opinions and instead represent the interests and foreign policy of their assigned country. This creates a dynamic environment where cooperation, compromise, diplomacy, and strategic thinking are essential.
What Delegates Can Expect
RijnMUN offers students the opportunity to:
- Discuss global issues and explore complex international challenges.
- Develop public-speaking skills through speeches and formal debate.
- Practice diplomacy and negotiation by working with delegates representing different perspectives.
- Write and amend resolutions designed to address the problems discussed in committee.
- Strengthen research and critical-thinking skills by examining international issues from multiple perspectives.
- Build confidence in expressing ideas and defending positions in front of others.
- Meet students from different schools and countries and become part of an international MUN community.
More Than Just Debate
While debate is an important part of RijnMUN, the conference is ultimately about collaboration. Delegates must learn how to balance their country's interests with the need to find solutions that other countries can support. Successful delegates are not necessarily those who speak the most, but those who can listen, negotiate, build alliances, and turn different ideas into workable solutions.
RijnMUN also provides students with an opportunity to experience the atmosphere and procedures of international diplomacy in a realistic but student-friendly setting.
A Conference for All Experience Levels
Whether a delegate is attending their first MUN conference or already has extensive experience, RijnMUN offers an opportunity to learn and improve. Beginners can become familiar with MUN procedure, diplomacy, and resolution writing, while experienced delegates can challenge themselves through more complex discussions and negotiations.
Through its combination of debate, diplomacy, cooperation, and international affairs, RijnMUN aims to give students a memorable conference experience while encouraging them to become more informed and engaged global citizens.
