Letter from the Secretariat

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Model United Nations conference, which will be held entirely online from March 31st to April 2nd. Our conference is focused on pioneering geopolitics and creating a diplomatically-conducive environment, bringing together students from around the world to engage in meaningful dialogue and debate.

As a highly competitive and challenging event, our conference is designed to offer participants a unique opportunity to showcase their leadership, public speaking, and critical thinking skills. Through simulated diplomatic negotiations, delegates will explore complex geopolitical issues and work collaboratively to develop innovative solutions that address the challenges facing our world today.

We are committed to creating a highly competitive but collaborative, where participants can network with peers and experts in their field and gain recognition for their contributions to the conference, and push each other to their maximum potential. Our conference features a range of committees, covering a variety of topics related to geopolitics, from disarmament and global security and  to medicinal technologies and sustainable development.

As a participant, you will have access to exclusive resources and training, designed to help you excel in your roles and gain recognition for your performance in the conference. Whether you are a seasoned MUN participant or a first-time delegate, our conference is designed to provide a challenging and rewarding experience that will help you grow both personally and academically. If you have not participated in previous MUN conferences, we would strongly recommend adhering to the WHO and ECOSOC committees. As for more experienced delegates, please challenge yourself with the higher level committees.

Awards and Honors

PIGMUN believes heavily in recognizing excellence and hard work. The Secretariat believes that there is nothing more commendable than a delegate striving to improve debate and more accurately represent their nation's views. To that end, we have decided to give the following awards to each committee. However, in exception to numerous other conferences, we would also take into account aspects such as diplomatic attitude, resolution quality, humility, and respect.

    About the committee

    Welcome delegates to the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) - the first of the six main committees of the United Nations General Assembly. Our committee's primary objective is to work towards strengthening global security by addressing issues related to disarmament and security. In PIGMUN, we are gathered to address a pressing issue that has the potential to disrupt national security and global stability - the risk of governmental cyberattacks. Our agenda item for this session is "Developing Effective Measures to Mitigate the Risks of Governmental Cyberattacks." Governments around the world are increasingly relying on digital infrastructure to carry out essential functions, including communication, finance, and national defense. While the benefits of this digital transformation are numerous, it also exposes governments to new risks. Malicious actors, both state and non-state, are continually seeking to exploit vulnerabilities in government systems to carry out cyberattacks, causing significant harm to national security and the global economy. As delegates, it is our responsibility to address these challenges and develop effective measures to mitigate the risks of governmental cyberattacks. We must explore ways to improve cybersecurity capabilities and ensure the protection of critical infrastructure. We must also consider the impact of these attacks on international relations and work towards building trust and cooperation among nations to prevent and respond to these threats. We encourage all delegates to actively participate in the discussions, share their perspectives, and work collaboratively towards drafting a resolution that reflects the interests of all parties involved. We must also ensure that our policies promote the protection of fundamental human rights and civil liberties, including the right to privacy and freedom of expression. We hope to see you there.

    Welcome delegates to the World Health Organization (WHO), one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations. Our committee's primary objective is to promote global health by addressing issues related to disease prevention, treatment, and healthcare access. Today, we have gathered to address a pressing issue that has the potential to transform healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes globally - the reduction of international health disparities through the implementation of emerging medical technologies. Our agenda item for this session is "Reducing International Health Disparities through the Implementation of Emerging Medical Technologies." Access to quality healthcare remains a challenge in many parts of the world, and this is exacerbated by the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases and infectious diseases. Emerging medical technologies, such as telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and gene editing, have the potential to transform healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes, especially in resource-poor settings. However, the adoption of these technologies has been slow and uneven, leading to significant health disparities both within and between countries. As delegates, it is our responsibility to address these disparities and explore ways to promote the implementation of emerging medical technologies in a manner that is equitable and accessible to all. We must consider the ethical implications of these technologies and ensure that they do not perpetuate existing health inequalities. We must also examine ways to promote technology transfer and capacity building in developing countries to ensure that they can fully benefit from these advances. We encourage all delegates to actively participate in the discussions, share their perspectives, and work collaboratively towards drafting a resolution that reflects the interests of all parties involved.
