About the committee

Transitioning the energy source for vehicles to less emission-heavy sources has been a global agenda, with the UN setting the "Decade of Sustainable Transport" to start in 2026. In 2023, 18% of all cars sold were electric, an important record in the transportation industry. There have also been new research initiatives to explore hydrogen fuel cells. Such advances are important as the transportation industry is responsible for more than a third of greenhouse gas emissions, and recent innovation in public transit have made it more possible than ever to reduce emission and improve efficiency. Yet progress remains uneven across regions, and the clock is ticking. Delegates will discuss how international cooperation, infrastructure investment, and equitable policies can accelerate a global transition that works for both people and the planet.
