International Response to the Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation: Violations of Ukraine's Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity, the Legal Status of the 16 March Referendum, and Measures to Restore International Peace and Security.

    About the committee

The United Nations Security Council is the principal organ responsible for maintaining international peace and security. It is the only UN body whose decisions are legally binding on all member states. Under Chapters VI and VII of the UN Charter, the Council can recommend peaceful settlement of disputes, impose sanctions, authorize peacekeeping missions and, as a last resort, approve the use of force. In this simulation, the Council is expanded to 21 members. It brings together the five permanent members (China, France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States) with sixteen other delegations from Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. This wider format allows for broader coalitions, more diverse positions and more complex negotiations than the standard 15-member Council. This session is convened in March 2014 to address the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. The crisis raises fundamental questions about the principles on which the international order rests: the prohibition of the use of force, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and the limits of the right to self-determination. How the international community responds will shape not only the future of Ukraine and the security of Eastern Europe, but also the credibility of the UN Charter and the precedent set for similar disputes around the world.

“Enhancing Equal Political Participation and Representation of Women in Executive and Legislative Governance”

    About the committee

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) is dedicated to accelerating global progress on gender equality and human rights. At Lever MUN 2026, the UN Women committee will address the critical imperative of equal political participation and executive representation.  Despite significant global efforts, systemic, institutional, and socioeconomic barriers continue to limit women’s full, safe, and equal access to public administration and national legislative bodies. Delegations will deliberate on progressive policy measures-including legislative frameworks, temporary special measures, and protection mechanisms-to eliminate structural hurdles, foster inclusive leadership, and uphold Sustainable Development Goal 5. Delegates will be expected to engage in constructive multilateral negotiation, formulate comprehensive draft resolutions, and propose actionable strategies toward achieving global gender parity in governance.
