First UNA BC Intergenerational Model United Nations Community Conference - Syria
You are cordially invited to attend the forthcoming first Intergenerational Model United Nations (IMUN), an inspiring event hosted at Academy Mapleton Hill (AMH) and organized by the United Nations Association of Boulder County (UNA-BC). This unique gathering unites high school students with Model UN experience, UNA members, and Academy residents to address the future of Syria through an intergenerational dialogue and Model UN Security Council simulation.

- Friday, March 7: Introductions, Position Papers, and Prep Work Session, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
- Saturday, March 8: Full-Day Model UN Simulation, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
What to Expect? Participants will assume roles as UN ambassadors and representatives of UN agencies in a simulated United Nations Security Council meeting, discussing and debating critical issues related to Syria, such as:
- Political factions and stability
- Rebuilding efforts and education
- The roles of global institutions in creating a sustainable future for Syria
Much of the Security Council's work occurs in informal contacts among delegations. Thus, the IMUN will provide ample opportunity for informal discussions among IMUN delegations and lobbying for positions among them.

Who Can Participate We welcome:
- Colorado high school students with Model UN experience
- UNA members and Residents of Academy Mapleton Hill and Academy University Hill
Preparation Requirements High School participants will prepare a single-page research and position paper on their assigned country’s or institution’s role in Syria. Background materials to assist them will be provided by February 21, 2025. Participants are required to bring computers.
Complete the registration form (linked here) by Friday, February 14, 2025, to express interest and select your preferred country or institutional representation. The organizers will consider preferences but cannot guarantee that attendees will be assigned their preferences. Each “delegation” will consist of one student and one Academy resident or UNA member.
Conference Schedule
- Friday, March 7: 6:30 PM - Registration, Welcome; 7:00 PM - Work Time for Delegations; desert and coffee/tea
- Saturday, March 8: 9:00 AM - Check-In & Breakfast; 9:30 AM - Sessions I & II; Lunch will be provided. 3:30 PM - Closing Ceremonies, the continuation of informal contacts, and snacks
Why Join? The IMUN will foster understanding, empathy, and collaboration across generations. This experience builds skills valuable in academic, professional, and civic life while contributing to meaningful global discussions and intergenerational understanding. Model UNs normally charge fees, but this IMUN will be cost-free to participants.
Location & Parking The event will take place at Academy Mapleton Hill, with free parking available in gravel lots accessible from Maxwell Street at the entrance to Academy Mapleton Hill.
