There is an urgent global imperative to step up conservation efforts for the world's most biodiverse and threatened ecosystems known as biodiversity hotspots. These regions covering just 2.4% of the earth's land surface are home to more than half of the world's plant species and a third of all animal species. However, they face massive degradation and habitat loss from human activities like deforestation, urbanization, pollution, and climate change. Developing collaborative international policies and frameworks to preserve these ecological treasures through sustainable management, habitat restoration and prevention of further encroachment is critical for ensuring a biodiverse future for the planet.

Persistent food insecurity and malnutrition remain major global challenges, predominantly impacting developing and underdeveloped nations. Despite falling poverty rates, an estimated 690 million people still go hungry worldwide, with the Covid-19 pandemic reversing decades of progress. Lack of access to affordable, nutritious food and basic sanitation perpetuates cycles of undernutrition, stunting and wasting in children. Achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 2 of zero hunger requires comprehensive, country-led strategies.

Resolving this ethically and legally complex issue through evidence-based policies is critical for social inclusion and equality.

However, the determinants and measurement of digital trade remain poorly understood. There are also unresolved issues around taxation, consumer protection, privacy, and market concentration by big tech firms. Developing coherent multilateral policies to account for these tectonic shifts is critical.

There are concerns in some quarters over potential overreach, misallocation of resources, lack of oversight and insufficient checks and balances. Conversely, others argue the administration has a strong mandate and is enacting its electoral promises.

About the committee

Instead of representing the interests of a single country, the International Press Delegation allows participants to act as impartial journalists, photographers, or caricaturists, reporting the proceedings of each simulation in the Conference via different mediums. They would investigate committee debates, conduct interviews, click photographs, make candid caricatures, edit articles, and cover press conferences.
