About the committee

The European Parliament was established to give the people of Europe a direct voice in the decision-making of the European Union. It was created to ensure democratic representation across member states and to strengthen unity in post-war Europe. Originally formed in 1952 as the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community, it became the European Parliament in 1962 and has evolved into one of the EU’s main legislative bodies. Its creation aimed to promote peace, cooperation, and democratic values within a growing European integration project.
