EBSMUN 2027: Power, Responsibility and Global Governance

EBSMUN is a student-led Model United Nations conference hosted at EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht in Oestrich-Winkel, in Germany’s Rheingau region between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt. After a successful first edition in March 2026 with around 60 delegates, we are back from 2 to 4 April 2027.

This year’s theme, Balancing Sovereignty, Economic Influence and Human Security in the Twenty-First Century, runs through five committees at three levels:

  • ECOFIN (Beginner): Managing Global Inflation and Supply Chain Instability During Energy Crises
  • CSW (Beginner): Protecting Women from Exploitation in the Global Sex Industry: Regulation, Trafficking and the Protection of Rights
  • FAO (Beginner): Securing Global Food Systems in the Face of Climate Change
  • UNCTAD (Intermediate): Attracting Foreign Investment in an Era of Geopolitical Risk
  • IMF (Expert): Preventing Sovereign Debt and Banking Crises in a High-Interest-Rate Global Economy

Over three days, delegates take part in committee sessions, opening and closing ceremonies, networking and a social event.

Who can apply? Students aged 16 and over, from university or secondary school. No prior MUN experience is needed: every delegate receives a study guide for their committee, and first-time delegates get an introduction to the Rules of Procedure. Individual applications are welcome, so you do not need a school or university delegation. International delegates are very welcome.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Delegates who need a visa should apply early. Visa invitation letters are issued only after acceptance and full payment of the fee.

    Topic

Managing Global Inflation and Supply Chain Instability During Energy Crisis

    About the committee

In this session of the Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN), delegates will discuss global inflation and supply-chain instability caused by energy crises. Recent energy crises have demonstrated how rapidly disruptions in oil, gas and electricity markets can spread through the global economy, leading to high inflation rates as well as rising food and commodity markets. Energy is fundamental to global production and logistics. Shortages of oil and gas makes global supply chains extremely vulnerable. At the same time, energy plays an important role in geopolitics, often used as a tool of power, causing tensions between global parties. The committee will examine how the international community can reduce the impact of future energy and commodity disruptions without undermining global trade and relations while protecting developing and trade-dependent countries from dependencies and exploitation.

Protecting Women from Exploitation in the Global Sex Industry: Regulation, trafficking and the protection of Rights

    About the committee

The Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) is dedicated to empowering women and girls worldwide and promoting gender equality. This year’s UNCSW committee, delegates will debate on how to protect women from exploitation in the global sex industry. Currently, states differ fundamentally in how they regulate and deal with prostitution and other forms of commercial sex activity. Approaches range from prohibition and criminalisation to legalisation, decriminalisation and models that criminalize the purchase rather than the sale of sexual services. Delegates will examine how different models affect trafficking, violence, labour protections and access to healthcare. Delegates also will also consider the rising role of online platforms and organized crime.

    Topic

Securing Global Food Systems in the Face of Climate Change

    About the committee

In this session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), delegates will discuss how global food systems can be secured in the face of climate change. Floods, high temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, soil degradation and other extreme weather events put the agricultural food production under huge distress. The committee will examine how the international community can adapt the global food and agricultural production to changing climate conditions and frequent climate disasters while maintaining food security and protecting natural resources, as well as strengthening highly exposed farmers and communities. Delegates will also discuss how international food trade can help stabilise supply during regional shortages while avoiding harmful export restrictions.

    1. Attracting Foreign Investment in an Era of Geopolitical Risk

United Nations Conference on Trade and Development - UNCTAD

    Intermediate · English · 25 countries

    Topic

Attracting Foreign Investment in an Era of Geopolitical Risk

    About the committee

Foreign direct investment is an important source of capital, technology, infrastructure and employment, particularly for developing economies. At the same time, geopolitical tensions, sanctions, strategic competition, supply-chain disruptions, as well as concerns over national security have made cross-border investment increasingly politicised. Governments are now attempting to balance two competing objectives: remaining attractive to international investors while protecting strategic sectors and reducing exposure to political or economic coercion. Developing countries face a particular challenge, as excessive restrictions may reduce badly needed investment, while poorly regulated investment can create long-term dependencies or expose states to financial, political and security risks. The committee will examine how governments and international institutions can maintain open and attractive investment environments while managing geopolitical, sovereign and national-security risks.

    Topic

Preventing Sovereign Debt and Banking Crises in a High-Interest-Rate Global Economy

    About the committee

Periods of high interest rates, weak economic growth and elevated public debt can place substantial pressure on governments and financial institutions. Rising borrowing costs can make sovereign debt increasingly difficult to repayq, while losses in the banking sector, capital outflows and currency depreciation can spread financial instability across national borders. The committee will examine how the IMF and its member states can identify vulnerabilities earlier, limit the spread of financial crises across borders and improve international responses to sovereign debt and banking crises.
