____
What will happen in Namibia and in the southwestern coast of Africa in the context of discovering new resources to exploit, in 2027 ?
That is the question you will have to answer during the fourth edition of the Model United Nations Wargame, or MUNWAR by CINUP.
What is the MUNWAR by CINUP and why participate ?
The MUNWAR is an event that aims to simulate a geopolitical scenario and will gather students, all passionate about international relations and coming from diverse universities.
This fourth edition will transport students in 2027 during a regional crisis regarding the exploitation of resources such as uranium and diamond in Namibia.
MUNWAR 2026 will fuse three concepts this year:
- The classical MUN committees (english and french)
- The wargame cabinet (french)
- The press corps committee (english and french)
____
MUNWAR is an innovative simulation format that combines the principles of Model United Nations with those of strategic wargaming. It aims to provide an immersive representation of the complexity of contemporary crises by bringing together three key dimensions: diplomacy, military strategy and information management.
The Diplomats, reunited within the MUN committees, are responsible for political and legal decisions. They debate, negotiate and seek to develop collective solutions to an evolving crisis.
The Wargame Participants play the role of military actors. They make concrete operational decisions on the ground, taking into account logistical, strategic and time constraints.
The Press Corps plays a central role in ensuring the dissemination of information. Through its publications, it influences perceptions of the crisis and helps to maintain constant pressure on decision-makers.
The functioning of MUNWAR relies on constant interaction between these three spheres. Decisions adopted by the diplomatic committees have direct consequences on the military front, whilst actions carried out as part of the Wargame generate new crises that fuel political debates. Journalists, for their part, ensure the flow of information and contribute to the intensity of the simulation.
For example, the adoption of a resolution may authorise military intervention or impose an embargo, thereby altering the balance of power. Conversely, a military operation or a major incident may lead to the convening of an emergency meeting and cause heightened diplomatic tensions.
Taking part in a MUNWAR offers a unique immersive experience, combining international negotiation with strategic thinking. Participants develop essential skills such as decision-making, crisis management, negotiation and strategic analysis.
The event takes place over two days and is fast-paced, featuring evolving crises, constant interaction between committees and a gradual build-up in intensity, culminating in a final phase where diplomatic and military decisions converge to determine the outcome of the crisis.
Who organizes it ?
This event is organized by the Comité Interuniversitaire des Nations Unies de Paris (CINUP), which organizes multiple institutional visits, conferences and simulations throughout the year, and gathers diverse Parisian associations for student diplomacy.
Our partners for this edition are Les Jeunes IHEDN.
