What if we were back in 1982 during the Falklands War?
That is the question you will have to answer during the third edition of the Model United Nations Wargame.
What is the MUNWar ?
MUNWar is an event that aims to simulate a geopolitical scenario for 2 days and will gather students, all passionate about international relations and coming from many French and international universities.
This third edition will transport students in 1982 during the Falklands War.
MUNWar will fuse two concepts:
- The MUN
- The wargame
In addition to participants who will embody the role of diplomats, others will be playing the role of military officials in a campaign. Through the intermediary of the board on which the sides will move their pieces, the diplomats will quickly see the actual (simulated) consequences of their negotiations, allowing them to concretely experience the ever-changing nature of geopolitics, especially during a crisis. This is the first time that a crisis simulation will be approached in such a comprehensive manner, taking into account not only the diplomatic arena but also the battlefield itself.
The last aspect of geopolitics that is usually overlooked by traditional MUNs will also be taken into account: government representatives. The latter will be responsible for processing the information transmitted to them by diplomats and military officials and giving them their orders according to the strategy they deem most appropriate to achieve their objectives. Through this component, participants will get to grasp in a much more tangible way than in a classic MUN the responsibility to their government and the subordination to it that the real job of a diplomat implies.
This professional crisis-management training will be particularly beneficial to students who are seriously considering a career in one of the three domains present in the simulation and may even discover unsuspected talents.
Who are the actors ?
Among the countries represented in the simulation, those considered most directly affected by the crisis will be called "majors". These major players will be Argentina, the United States and the United Kingdom. Their delegations will be composed of three directorates: diplomacy, military and government sections.
The other countries will be called “minors” will be represented in the two debating committees: the UNSC and the SPECPOL. The “minors” will also have to work with the delegates of their country in the other committee.
Who organizes it ?
This event is organized by the Comité Interuniversitaire des Nations Unies de Paris (CINUP), which is also the host of the Harvard World MUN 2023, an event that brings together 2500 students, as well as the organiser of the PIMUN, one of the most prestigious MUN simulations in Europe that take occurs annually in Paris.
Our partners for this edition are Princips Audaux and Theatrum Mundi.
The third edition will take place at HEIP (Campus Eiffel).
