mymun co-organizes the 6th Geneva Trialogue alongside UNITAR and UNIGE
Press Release

Geneva 31.05.2024 – mymun is honored to co-organize the sixth edition of the Geneva Trialogue, an annual event created by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the University of Geneva. The event, hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), aims to bring together thought leaders from academia, international organizations, and the private sector to develop actionable targets for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) education.
This year’s theme is “Artificial Intelligence and Education for the SDGs”. Especially noteworthy for the Model United Nations (MUN) community is the active incorporation of MUN into the summit by focusing on the potential usage of AI in MUN. The Geneva Trialogue, part of the World Summit on the Information Society +20 Forum High Level-Event, stresses the existing role of extracurricular activities, namely Model United Nations, in students’ lives and the impactful potential they carry with them.
The University of Geneva has joined forces with UNITAR for the sixth consecutive year. This enduring partnership is dedicated to shedding light on the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Goals and driving youth engagement towards realizable initiatives. In preparation for the one-day parallel-event of the AI for Good Summit, the ITU's flagship event for Artificial Intelligence, thought leaders and students were able to develop their initial areas of discussion with the support of their supervising academics, and the partnering organizations.
“We are deeply honoured to be able to contribute to such a high-level, high-impact parallel event of the AI for Good summit. The student team at the University of Geneva's SDG Solution Space, led by François Grey has managed to create an incredibly diverse, inclusive pool of participants and contributors. We’re excited to see delegates from our network partake in the Trialogue, and provide input of our own to the projects.” says Jonas Bruns, CEO of mymun.
“Bringing together, academia, the private sector and MUNers under one roof the way it’s done today, is just the first step to building the necessary bridges amongst all sectors to align ourselves with the SDGs for a sustainable future. Today is considered the first tangible result of UN resolution A/RES/77/336, which was passed last year by the UN General Assembly and highlights the importance of the collaboration between the United Nations and Model United Nations. We are extremely honoured and humbled to be part of this event, and look forward to our counterparts joining us in taking steps to enforce the resolution on a larger scale.” adds Alexander Dietz, CEO of mymun.
Results from the preceding edition of the trialogue were further developed in follow-on hackathons organized by the University of Geneva in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), and other international organizations. Selected insights from the hackathons contributed to a prototype, which was later showcased at COP28. We look forward to similarly successful realization and implementation with this year’s projects and are excited to contribute to their creation.
