What is NIMSA MUN?

The Nigerian Medical Students’ Association Model United Nations (NIMSA-MUN) is a premier simulation that brings together future physicians and young leaders to explore the intersection of medicine, diplomacy, and global governance. It is a dynamic platform where participants engage in realistic UN-style debates, develop policy solutions, and learn how international cooperation shapes global health and human development.

By bridging medical science and international relations, NIMSA-MUN equips participants with vital skills in negotiation, public speaking, consensus building, and critical thinking. Through this experience, delegates deepen their understanding of global health systems, equity, and diplomacy, preparing them to become advocates for peace, justice, and health for all.

Committees and Topics

NIMSA-MUN 2025 features four main committees, each addressing a pressing issue shaping global health and development today:

  1. World Health Organization (WHO) – Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Delegates will debate strategies to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance, exploring policies for surveillance, stewardship, access to medicines, and innovation.
  2. United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) – Reducing Maternal Mortality in Africa This committee will focus on advancing maternal health through improved healthcare systems, equitable access to reproductive services, and stronger policy commitments.
  3. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Delegates will explore how environmental degradation and climate change impact public health, and design solutions to build resilience and promote sustainability.
  4. Crisis Committee – The Talent Exodus: Addressing Africa’s Brain Drain Crisis In a high-pressure, real-time simulation, participants will respond to the continent’s brain drain challenge, negotiating innovative policies to retain talent and strengthen health systems.
