Conference Title: Kartavya Path Model United Nations

Hosted by: Communiqué - GTBIT MUN Society
Date: 12th-13th October
Location: Online

Overview:
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains one of the most enduring and contentious disputes in modern history. The question of borders and settlements lies at the heart of this conflict, challenging efforts toward peace and stability in the Middle East. The Global Dialogue on Settlements and Borders invites delegates to engage in deep discussions on the territorial disputes between Israel and Palestine, focusing on finding pathways to resolution through diplomacy, international law, and multilateral cooperation.

Committee:

 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
The UNGA provides a forum where all member states can debate and deliberate on the pressing issues of global concern. This simulation of the UNGA will allow participants to immerse themselves in international diplomacy, learning the intricacies of negotiation, resolution drafting, and collaboration. Through debate and dialogue, participants will work toward resolving one of the most complex territorial disputes in the modern world.

Topic:

Settlements and Borders: Resolving Territorial Disputes between Israel and Palestine
This agenda focuses on the multifaceted issue of territorial disputes, settlements, and borders between Israel and Palestine, recognizing the political, social, and humanitarian implications involved. Delegates will address key aspects of this dispute, including:

1. Status of Israeli Settlements:
Examining the legality of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem under international law and their impact on the peace process. How should the international community respond to ongoing settlement activities?

2. Border Negotiations and the Two-State Solution:
Exploring possible frameworks for establishing final borders between Israel and a future Palestinian state. What compromises are necessary to achieve the two-state solution, and how can both sides agree on territorial boundaries?

3. The Role of Jerusalem:
Discussing the future status of Jerusalem, a city claimed as a capital by both Israel and Palestine. How can the religious, political, and cultural sensitivities surrounding the city be navigated to reach a peaceful resolution?

4. Security and Sovereignty:
Balancing the security concerns of Israel with the sovereignty aspirations of Palestine. How can both parties ensure mutual security while respecting each other’s rights and sovereignty?

5. Refugee Rights and the Right of Return:
Addressing the Palestinian refugee issue and the right of return. How can a fair and lasting solution be crafted for the millions of displaced Palestinians while ensuring Israel’s demographic concerns are respected?

6. International Mediation and Peacebuilding:
Evaluating the role of international actors and organizations in mediating peace and supporting the peacebuilding process. What role should the UN, regional powers, and external stakeholders play in facilitating negotiations?

Conference Goals:

  • To deepen understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian territorial dispute and its implications for regional and global stability.
  • To encourage participants to engage in complex negotiations that balance historical grievances, security concerns, and humanitarian needs.
  • To foster creative thinking and diplomacy in the search for a peaceful resolution to one of the world’s most protracted conflicts.
  • To empower delegates to draft innovative resolutions that outline potential paths toward peace, considering international law, historical agreements, and the geopolitical landscape.
  • To promote multilateral cooperation, conflict resolution, and the principles of diplomacy in addressing territorial disputes.
