Driving alliances in the face of tomorrow's fragmentation.
The Spain Youth Model United Nations (SYMUN) is a project organized over the past eight years by the Association for the United Nations and International Law (ANUDI) at Carlos III University of Madrid. ANUDI has been responsible for bringing Model United Nations to this university as the organizer of UC3MUN.
However, ANUDI decided to follow the tradition of many countries in Latin America and Europe by taking these activities into school classrooms, thereby reaching hundreds of pre-university students in secondary and upper-secondary (Bachillerato) education. That is how SYMUN emerged in 2017—a pioneering Model United Nations project for schools at the national level.
SYMUN combines ANUDI’s experience in organizing conferences and international simulations of the United Nations, with the aim of bringing together hundreds of outstanding high-school students from different parts of Spain and around the world, giving them the opportunity to debate in both Spanish and English as if they were real international diplomats.
SYMUN thus becomes a space for growth and discovery—a forum for debate that promotes understanding and awareness of the most current global issues.
Past editions of SYMUN have been a complete success, with SYMUN 2024 closing with more than 400 participants from schools across the world. Its academic rigor, together with its meticulous organization, makes the Spain Youth Model United Nations the leading Model United Nations simulation for high-school students worldwide.
