Most Honourable Participants of the International SOBILMUN 2020 Conference;

We as the Secretaries General of the fifth annual session of SOBILMUN, Furkan Sarı and Eli Evren Ross, hereby invite you to one of the most well established conferences in the Model United Nations society, on behalf of all of our academic and organization teams.

As Prof. Dr. Mümtaz Turhan Social Sciences High School, we first established our Model United Nations club in order to comprehend and try to find solutions to global problems. As we thrived in doing so, we decided to embark upon an even more challenging and exciting journey, by starting our own conference, hosting hundreds of participants who get together in order to search for solutions which might help relieving the pain of the sufferers. It has been 5 years since we started this journey and this year we decided to take a new step. A step which we hope, may change things in the MUN community.

2019 was a very important year in terms of raising awareness about environmental problems, especially global warming. Last year, we saw young people uniting all around the globe and expressing their unhappiness with such problems being ignored. As a result we believe that youngsters should not only display awareness but also suggest solutions. For this reason SOBILMUN’20 will be an environmentally-friendly conference in itself as well as focusing on the subject of the environment in general and on sustainability in particular. As a result both in environmental and political terms, sustainability will be the theme of SOBILMUN’20. We have been using our motto “Join the Fire of Peace”, for five years now and this year we state that the fires we want to start are not the ones which destroy ecosystems, but the fire created by the global urge for peace.

In regards of our special theme and concept, as both the academic and organization teams we have decided to explore our theme in 15 different committees. These committees are the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Advanced General Assembly (GA), The United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Accord de Paris sur le climat, Arctic Council, Council of Europe, Gaddafi’s Cabinet and Joint Crisis Cabinets. The committees will provide the delegates with the required atmosphere and opportunity to express their ideas and talk freely about problems affecting the whole globe.

In this fifth version of SOBILMUN, we promise you a very entertaining and academically pleasing experience. Climate change and environmental problems are issues which will affect future generations and cannot be ignored and there is no better occasion to discuss these problems than SOBILMUN’20.

The fire started 5 years ago, but today is as strong as it used to be. Which is why for the fifth time we invite you, our dear guests, with the motto;

“JOIN THE FIRE OF PEACE!”
