Dear MUN Directors and Student Leaders,

We are pleased to announce that Stamford American International School will be hosting their second annual Model United Nations conference in February of 2020! Having held the SEASACMUN XI conference in 2018, and the inaugural SAISMUN conference at our school, we are returning to present the second iteration of SAISMUN. The conference will take place on the days of February 7, 8, 9, 2020, and we would be honoured if you could take part in our event.

SAISMUN II, 2020 is a MUN conference tailored for students from grades 6 through 12. This year, there will be 9 committees, consisting of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Human Rights Council (HRC), World Health Organization (WHO), General Assembly 1 (Disarmament and International Security), General Assembly 6 (Legal), Security Council (SC), Historical Security Council (HSC), and Special Conference (SpecCon). There will be separate, as well as joint committees for both middle and high schoolers.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Seeking the Resurgence of a United World in an Era of Isolationism”. It was adopted on the basis that today, as nations continue to isolate themselves from each other and strive for greater independence, what is truly required to solve pressing issues worldwide, is a coordinated international response. As humanity continues to sunder itself, we must band together and fight towards a common goal. Whether it be combating transnational organized crime, or climate change - we must work together, as a united world, to overcome the dangers of today in order to continue to prosper and mould a greater quality of life for future generations.

It is with the same idea in mind that we have decided to expand SAISMUN into an international conference. We hope to welcome schools from all over the world to further emphasize our idea of a united world and promote our message of internationalism. As an international school, we are committed to expanding our own horizons, as well as those of others. Thus, we place tremendous value on global citizenship and international cooperation.

The handbooks will be essential to further understand the workings of the specialized committees and how they will function. Please take note that SAISMUN follows THIMUN procedures and protocol. Some pieces of advice regarding committee selections that will be useful to you whilst requesting certain committees on Form I is as follows:

Each and every committee has been designated an experience level; this varies from novice to intermediate to advanced. Most committees will run as per expected, with the exception of the Security Council and Historical Security Council. Our SC and HSC will operate clause-by-clause and delegations will be dual. On another note, the Special Conference committee will discuss topics pertaining to the conference theme but follow the same procedure as normal committees.
