PresMUN 2018

President Model United Nations 2018 will be held on September 19-22, 2018. PresMUN takes place in Cikarang, West Java, Indonesia. It is the seventh season of PresMUN which shall surpass its six predecessors both in the range of participants as well as in the service that its Secretariat offers. PresMUN itself is an annual MUN conference co-hosted by President University Model United Nations (PresUniv MUN). Its first installment was done in 2012 and, ever since, has received high enthusiasm and eager anticipation from local and international audiences. In the national level, PresMUN has achieved certain reputation and is often deemed as one of the most prestigious MUN conferences in Indonesia despite its young age. This year, PresMUN 2018 aims to be a vessel upon which a group of young thinkers could pour their ideas and learn how to shape this world into a better place. Aside from the committee session, PresMUN will also entertain the delegate with numerous social parties such as Opening Party, Social Night and Closing Party where delegates could engage and get to know each other.

Committees:

1. United Nation Development Programme (UNDP)

UNDP is one of the executive boards under the UN General Assembly. This council is working in 170 countries and helps to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities, and build resilience to sustain developments. 

Topic A: Rural Development: Poverty Alleviation through Information and Communication Technology. 

Topic   B: The Development of Indigenous People in the midst of Modernization.

2. United Nations Security Council (UNSC) - Double Delegates

UNSC is one of the six main organs of the United Nations under primary responsibility to maintain peace and security. UNSC has distinctive characteristics which lie upon the ultimate power of veto right owned by its five permanent members and the role of ten nonpermanent members which have two-year terms of service. The council has the authority to determine the existence of a threat or aggression that might threaten world peace. PRESMUN 2018 UNSC council will apply a double delegate mechanism.

3. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

ITU is a part of United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technology (ICTs). It helps to manage and control emergency services and power networks as well as allocating global radio spectrum and satellite orbits to further develop technical standards that ensure networks and technology to seamlessly interconnected. Furthermore, the council strives to improve ICTs to underserved communities worldwide. 

Topic A: Preventing Cyber-terrorism on Youth 

Topic B: Eradicating the Global Health Crisis by the Utilization of Artificial Intelligence

4. Crisis Committee

Crisis Committee is a type of Model UN council; categorized as unconventional. Unlike other councils, here, delegates could represent not only a state – but also characters with missions to complete. In this council, delegates may explore a world of unlimited fantasy and travel to the past or even the future.

5. Press Corps 

As part of the body of international journalism, Press Corps delegates will listen, observe, and analyze the situations that are occurring in other chambers and compose their writings which will be published as reports, articles, opinions as well as updates on online platforms throughout the conference. They will also be granted the privilege to interview other delegates inside or outside the chamber. Delegates would represent international news media e.g. CNN, BBC and Al-Jazeera instead of states or characters.
